There is a lot of bad info floating around about Boss blocks, heads, cranks, and rods. I'll try to clear it up.

Boss blocks were D0AE-L. These blocks were cast and then 4 bolt caps were added afterward, for a Boss. But, this block casting number also came in two bolt versions, for the other Cleveland engines. You have to check BOTH, numbers and caps for a Boss. Same with the D1AE-GA Boss heads. The bare heads were cast, then machining applied to them, depending on the heads intended use. So D1AE-GA was also used on `71 M codes with hyd cams. Again, check BOTH your casting numbers, and any machining. True Boss cranks, (that were checked for their hardness), were all then stamped D1ZX-AA. A "4MA" only crank is just a regular Cleveland crank, un-checked. True Boss rods will be stamped "D1ZX-AA". Boss rod caps are the standard Cleveland D0AE-E. Some Boss service replacement engines came with DOAE rods, but they were still magnafluxed and shot-peened, and had correct Boss bolts/nuts installed. Now, on with my sites.

My name is Rich Pajzer, and these are my 4 websites about a Boss 351 Mustang that I started to build and restore in 1976.

Ninty nine percent of the parts I used were all NOS service parts for a 1971 Boss 351 Mustang, (including the engine), all bought from local Ford dealers during `74-`79.

I have only had the car back on the road once since 1976, which was in 1995 for only 1 week! The car is still not finished yet after all these years!

I have highly modified the whole car top to bottom during it's restoration, "MY WAY", while keeping it as close to a correct `71 Boss 351 as I chose to...hope you like it so far. 100% of the engine, trans, and rear end building were done by me. I also do all my own electrical and body/paint work.

As of 2006 .... If you have been here before, the car is still not finished as it's shown here on this 1st site, except the engine, trans, suspension, and rear end are now out again and all apart so that I can make some improvements, and paint everthing with correct original colors this time. The pictures here on the1st site are what the car looked like in the `80's-`90's. Pix of the new up-graded parts and changes done in `04-`06 will be slowly placed on site 3-4.

The Engine

The NOS "D1AE-GA" Boss heads that I ported and polished. (Note-this same bare head casting / number was also used on `71 non-Boss "M Code engine" quench chambered heads, with different factory machining then applied to the rocker pedestals and valve spring seats.) The NOS (weak 2-piece) Ford Boss valves shown have since been replaced by Milodon racing valves.

Short Block Shipment Tag

Here you can see the pop-up forged TRW pistons that were standard on the `71 Boss 351, the D1ZX crank, Boss rods, and also the extra wide balancer, which only came on Boss 351 engines.

Here you'll notice the 360 degree grooved Clevite brand main bearings, marked "D1ZE", that were standard on Boss 351 engines.

I polished the outside of the "Torker" manifold, and also blended and smoothed the plenum chamber wall into the roof of each manifold runner. (Bright white back ground / glare removed from pix(s).)

After I built up the NOS `71 Boss engine in `74, it sat on the engine stand until I decided to gut the whole car in `76, and so then the engine sat for another 8 years, still on the stand. This is a picture of what it looked like after I decided to paint it all over again, due to some rust that had formed on it.

The front spindles are NOS. The steering parts and control arms are all new, and are all Moog brand. (This is an old pix, and I am now in the process of painting everything the correct colors.)

Every nut, bolt, and bracket on the car were originally stripped to bare clean metal, and 99% of them were primed and painted silver or black. (I am now in the process of replacing all the nuts & bolts with new AMK brand original type/finish '71 Mustang ones.)
