PRR ITEMS FROM MY COLLECTION Here are a few items from my, hopefully, ever growing collection of PRR Hardware and Collectible Pieces.

** SPECIAL FEATURE--VINTAGE P&LE PHOTOS** This small collection of photographs were taken in the mid 1940's by my Dad. He used a small Brownie type camera so the quality is poor but atleast the vintage views were captured on film. The location of the pictures are at the P&LE Yards at College (Beaver Falls, Pa.). Scenes include Locos, Turntable/Roundhouse, Transfer Caboose and an outstanding view of the Double Crossover which was located directly in front of the Station. Boy have things changed the past 60 years. The Station survives as does the Roundhouse. Only one track (CSX) now passes through.

Several Years ago while searching thru a local Antique Shop, I found these interesting and rare views of the Pittsburgh & Lake Erie Railroad. The following scenes represent a very difficult move of the Beaver Falls/New Brighton P&LE Passenger Station. I do not recall the year this move occured but probably circa 1925. I also do not know the reason for the move. The station was moved, in one piece, approximately 300 yards railroad west. This was an interesting move. Very difficult factors came into play during this move. The station had to be raised, placed on cribbage, moved across the main line tracks, down an embackment, then moved up river, travel thru a very tight fit under the PRR Pittsburgh-Fort Wayne Mainline Bridge crossing, pulled further up river, then back across the P&LE main to where the station was relocated. It stayed there until the late 1970's when it was demolished. The following photos I believe are placed in order.

Photo 1 shows the general view before the move. Station would be located to left of passenger platform in this photograph. Station would be moved to the right of tracks down to the river bank and then dragged westward under and thru the PRR Bridge. In the distance you can see the P&LE tracks under the PRR Bridge. This opening was too narrow and low for the movement of the Station via this path. Thus the Station was taken to river side for the move under the PRR Bridge where the clearence was greater. Photo 2, I believe, shows the stations original location. Appears the platform has been removed for the future move.

Photo 3 shows the station on blocks. I believe this view is showing the station moved across the tracks from its original position. Photo 4 shows the station at the bank of the Beaver River in position for its move west.

Photo 5 shows the station enroute to its new location. View is of station near the PRR Bridge crossing. Photo 6 is the same location but photo was taken from the west side of the station looking under the PRR bridge.

Photo 7 shows final position of new location.

Interesting move! I would have liked to have been there to see what all was involved. I have no record as to how long the move took. The old saying, "where there's a will, there's a way", surely was the case here.
