I was inspired by Ron's voice the minute I heard it for the first time. His music inspired me to go into music as a profession. I started writing songs and learning to play instruments at 9 years of age. I went on to various bands, sang in contemporary Christian group All God's Children as a teen, then on to obtain my Bachelor and Master's Degrees in music and an Associate degree in Social Services. I've been a recording and performing artist in several groups and as a solo artist, a music therapist, jingle writer and producer, film scorer, won awards for my compositions. And behind it all was the voice of Ron singing me on and into my life. So it would be an understatement to say I'm truly Ron's #1 fan, and more a protege or second generation Dante musician. Ron's music helped to shape my life, my career and I can't imagine what the world would be like for me if he hadn't.

Many years ago, I had the privilege of meeting Ron and since then, we've become great friends. So besides giving back music to others the way Ron gave it to me, I give him back a little bit of cyberspace, a heck of a lot of research and a heartfelt and deep appreciation as a professional musician and as his friend in this website.

Over the years, this website has been, imitated, plagarized, reprinted in books, praised, awarded, mocked and scoffed at. But it's also been an accurate and complete original source of information about Ron's spectacular career to over a million visitors worldwide. And I'm very happy that's its done so well. So, this is my way of saying thanks for all the joy you've given me and also to the rest of the world whose heard your music, Ron.

Ron's scheduled to play Sat 10/29/05 in Cleveland, OH at the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame

"Sugar Sugar" used in White Castle spots

White Castle's new Honey Chipotle Chicken Sandwich is being launched with TV and radio advertising. According to White Caste's advertising division, "The excitement for the Honey Chipotle Chicken Sandwich is evident in our new TV spot as music by the Archies and Arthur Brown are mixed together in a dance club setting. Of course the unbeatable flavor of the new sandwich is responsible for the mixes of "Sugar, Sugar" and "Fire" coming together. The Honey Chipotle Chicken Sandwich will be available in all White Castle regions including: Chicago, Cincinnati, Columbus, Detroit, Indianapolis, Louisville, Minneapolis, Nashville, New Jersey, New York, Northeast Ohio and St. Louis. White Castle is based in Columbus, Ohio, and operates 393 restaurants in 11 states. The company was founded in Wichita, Kansas, in 1921 and was the first fast-food hamburger chain.

Ron mentioned at MTV News

MTV News did a feature about Comic Book superheros and rock music. Ron had a mention for his work on the Spiderman album in 1972.
"Also in that groovy decade, there were two rock albums dedicated to everyone's favorite webslinger: 1972's "Spider-Man: From Beyond the Grave" was a half story / half rock album telling the tale of Spidey and Dr. Strange teaming up to save Peter Parker's Aunt May from the clutches of the Kingpin! The music was all over the map, from wah-wah-driven acid rock to bubblegum doo-wop (the album featured the vocal stylings of Ron Dante, "lead singer" of cartoon legends the Archies) and Dixieland pop. But the dialogue was worthy of Mamet, featuring nuggets such as, "Can the small talk, fat man and let's get it on!"

Archie Comic Sues Warner Records
Archie Comic Publications Inc., publisher of comics featuring teenagers Archie Andrews and Jughead Jones, sued Warner Music Group Corp. to force it to change the name of the Australian pop band the Veronicas. The Veronicas, made up of twin sisters Lisa and Jessica Origliasso, were sued in federal court in New York, along with Warner Music Group. The Veronicas, who play music geared toward teen girls, are scheduled to release their first U.S. album in October. The girls admit they chose the name because the image of comic book character fit their attitude.
The lawsuit contends that the band will create confusion among consumers and interfere with Archie Comic's plans to create another music group called the Archies and to develop a movie called "Betty & Veronica" with Walt Disney Co.'s Miramax Film Corp.

"The Archies" album cited as influence
Seattle rock group "Kinski" recently was asked to review the best albums of the Rock Era in a Denver Post interview. The group named "The Archies" first album in their list. The group said that the musicianship and vocals were outstanding and captured one of the best and most forgotten sounds of that specific era of pop music in the 60's.

Ron to be honored at "Bubblegum Achievement Awards"
Ron Dante of The Archies, Joey Levine of the Ohio Express, Dr. Demento, and Steve Barri, who produced the campy chimp band Lancelot Link and the Evolution Revolution will receive the "Gummy" award on October 7th, 2005 in Los Angeles for their contributions to the genre.
Dante commented to the press that Bubblegum music was aimed at the pre-teen age group and was not meant to be compared to Led Zeppelin or the Rolling Stones. Ron is honored to receive the Gummy, but hopes Bubblegum will be recognized by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Filmation's Archie TV shows producer Norman Prescott has died

More sad news for Archie fans: Norman Prescott, chairman, co-founder and exec producer at Filmation Studios, died July 2 of natural causes in Los Angeles. He was 78. He teamed with Lou Scheimer to start Filmation Studios in 1965. He acquired the rights from National Periodicals to produce the "Superman" animated series, which led to Filmation's first big success. Filmation went on to garner two Emmy noms in 1974 for the animated series "Star Trek" and "Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids." The following year, "Star Trek" took home the laurel.

Other Filmation successes in children's programming include the "The Archies," "The Archie Comedy Hour", "Archie's Funhouse" "Archie's TV Funnies", "Everything's Archie", "The US of Archie', "Sabrina the Teen Age Witch" "The Groovie Ghoulies", "Archie's Bang Shangapalooza" and such notables as "Batman," "Tarzan, "Flash Gordon", "The Brady Kids," and another Ron Dante musical project "The Amazing Chan and the Chan Clan". Besides animatiion, Filmations produces live-action shows including "Shazam," "Isis," "Ark II" and "Space Academy."

Boston native and Air Force veteran Prescott started as a popular radio personality in his hometown, becoming program director at WORL at 21. In 1952, he founded the Norm Prescott School of Broadcasting, later renamed the Northeast Broadcasting School and currently the New England Institute of Art, located in Brookline, Mass. In 1959, Joseph E. Levine appointed him vice president of music, merchandising and post-production at newly formed Embassy Pictures Corp. His first assignment was to supervise the music and post-production for the motion picture "Hercules."

Two years later, he independently produced his first full-length animated feature, "Pinocchio in Outer Space," released through Universal. That was followed by "Journey Back to Oz," featuring the voice of Liza Minelli as Dorothy. Later, Turner Broadcasting had his company produce a domestic version of 85 animated half-hour shows acquired from Japan for television and cable syndication.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Elaine; two sons, Jeffrey, a San Diego radio host/reporter, and Michael, a film-TV producer and 3 grandchildren.

Howard "Jughead" Morris has passed away

Howard Morris, comedic actor who provided the voice of Jughead on the Filmation Archie Cartoon shows from 1968-1976, has died from congestive heart failure. He was 85.

Morris, who had heart problems in recent years, died Saturday at his home in Hollywood with family at his side on May 21st, 2005.

Morris worked as an actor, director and voice-over artist for over 60 years. He directed feature films including the comedies "With Six You Get Eggroll," starring Doris Day; "Who's Minding the Mint?" starring Jim Hutton; and "Don't Drink the Water," starring Jackie Gleason and directed TV shows, including the pilot for "Get Smart," and he was a Clio award-winning director of commercials.

His first acclaim to fame was as Sid Caesar's sidekick on the landmark "Your Show of Shows" in the 1950s with Imogene Coca and Carl Reiner that ran on NBC from 1950 to 1954 In the 1960's, he later played rock-throwing, jail cell escape artist-hillbilly Ernest T. Bass on "The Andy Griffith Show," one of the most popular characters on that series.

As a voice-over artist, Morris also did the voices of Gerald McBoing-Boing in Columbia cartoons in the '50s, Atom Ant, Beetle Bailey and General Halftrack in "Beetle Bailey and His Friends," and of course Jughead Jones, Hotdog and 'Big Moose' Mason in "The Archie Show, Archie Comedy Hour, Archie's Funhouse, Archies TV Funnies and The U.S. of Archie". Survivors include his daughters, Gabrielle, Kim and Devra and son David; and three grandchildren.

Morris touched so many lives with his talents, so it's not 'goodbye', but 'so long for now Juggie'!

Filmations catalog of "The Archies" gets digital clean up and restoration

In a press release JCA-TV, owners of "The Archies" announced the restoration of Filmation Classics With Snell & Wilcox Archangel Ph.C real-time restoration system

Vintage Saturday morning cartoons including "The Archies" and "Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids" are getting a new lease on life thanks to restoration work on Entertainment Rights' Filmation archive being carried out by JCA TV using the Snell & Wilcox Archangel Ph.C real-time restoration system.
,br> Filmation catalog owner Entertainment Rights, whose portfolio ranges from classics such as "Felix the Cat" to the latest fare in children's programming, such as "Postman Pat" and "Little Red Tractor," commissioned JCA TV to provide new DigiBeta masters, ready for international distribution, for the vast Filmation archive.

When reviewing samples of the original film-derived D1 masters, Entertainment Rights saw numerous benefits in cleaning up artifacts of the original transfer process, including improvement in any subsequent encoding efficiency for transmission, and improving the image quality for potential DVD releases.

"Some of the Filmation catalog was transferred from film to D1 tape in 1994 using what was probably 'state-of-the-art' telecine technology," said Jim Duncan, chief engineer at JCA TV. "Until then, JCA TV hadn't undertaken restoration work, but in this case it seemed a necessary part of the job, and something that would add value to the Entertainment Rights' Filmation catalog."

At that point, JCA TV considered a number of different options, including software restoration packages, before asking Snell & Wilcox to provide a demonstration of its Archangel Ph.C real-time restoration system.

"Entertainment Rights was impressed with the demonstration of Archangel's capabilities. When they learned how economical it would be to include the restoration process in the creation of new masters, they agreed to apply it to the complete Filmation archive," Duncan added.

Offering a highly cost-effective alternative to traditional restoration solutions, Archangel Ph.C works in real time to correct artifacts including noise, dirt, and scratches, plus unsteadiness and flicker using Snell & Wilcox's proprietary Ph.C motion compensation technology.

Archangel Ph.C cleans up, fixes, and stabilizes video material that has deteriorated or been damaged, either by age or other factors. The Archangel Ph.C process is real-time, and including set-up time, typical material can be processed in two to three times its running length.

"Artifacts such as excessive film grain, dirt, scratches, and weave can contribute up to half of the data on a DVD or satellite transmission path when raw images have to be encoded and transmitted," said Ian Ellis, Snell & Wilcox product manager for Archangel Ph.C. "Just by eliminating film weave, Archangel Ph.C can deliver a 20 percent improvement in encoding efficiency. With all the benefits it provides in terms of encoding and bandwidth efficiency, not to mention making the content itself more enjoyable, Archangel Ph.C more than pays for itself as an integral part of any transfer process."
