A long time ago in a galaxy...no, no, wrong story.
It was just five years ago in the NBC galaxy that a science fiction show called Earth 2 aired and captured the attention and loyalty of devoted fans.

The show only ran for one season, but reruns are now shown on the Sci Fi Channel, and the program also airs outside the United States.

Earth 2 tells the story of a group of strangers thrown together on a remote planet and ultimately united in their quest for survival and a new beginning.

With its thought-provoking plots, fascinating characters, compelling performances, and gracefully written scripts, Earth 2 continues to fascinate long-time fans and attract new fans as well.

This time,
WE

aliens

Many of these fans stay in touch, primarily via the Internet, and organize conventions for fellow fans, cast, and crew members.

The 1999 Earth 2 - 5th Anniversary Reunion Party was held July 16, 17, and 18 at the Radisson hotel in Sherman Oaks, California.

The party drew a wonderful crowd of fans from across the U.S. and as far as Japan, Germany, England, and of course Canada, and an equally wonderful crew of Guests of Honor, some of whom were unscheduled surprises. For many of the GOHs it was a genuine reunion: the cast and crew members greeted each other with hugs and laughter. Some had not seen each other since the show ended, and several had never met at all.

The Guest of Honor list included:

The Producer: Michael Duggan

The Actors: Jessica Steen (Dr. Julia Heller); John Wollner (known as John Gegenhuber when he played Morgan Martin); Sullivan Walker (Yale); Joey Zimmerman (Uly Adair); Rockmond Dunbar (Baines); Kirk Trutner (Cameron); Lisa Ebeyer (a Grendler); Jeff Deist (another Grendler); Tierre Turner (Zero and stunt coordinator); and Brian Steele (a Terrian).

The Composer: David Bergeaud

The Crew: Janet Davidson, assistant director/director; Kevin Pike, special effects supervisor; Stephen Lighthill, director of photography; Deborah Everton, costume designer; Bill Traetta, props and creature effects; Jana-Marie Bonar, props and creature effects; Marie Del Prete, makeup artist (and John Wollner's fiance); Angela Nogaro, key makeup artist, Carol Bower, assistant director; Art Schlosser, special effects; Kris Peck, set production assistant; Chip Touhey, props; and Michael "Spanky" Hansen, props.

Scheduled guest Clancy Brown (John Danziger) was working in Toronto and unable to attend, but he spoke with fans for an hour by phone on Sunday night. Another scheduled guest, director/writer John Harrison, is in Germany working on a miniseries of "Dune."

One theme prevailed throughout the convention: the cast and crew had come together as strangers, to break new ground, sometimes literally, on location in New Mexico. Unlike the casts and crews of shows produced on soundstages, who go home to their families at night, these people were thrown together for long periods of time and endured hardships of a strange and often hostile environment, much like their fictional counterparts. Despite the obstacles, they worked diligently, and ultimately forged bonds, to create something wonderful and enduring.

They seemed genuinely touched that the fans understand and appreciate their efforts.
