Directions for using "REAL" URLs on
Pagebuilder's regular URLs are "Re-directed" URLs that MsnTv uses to keep our URLs short. Pagebuilder's Real URLs are longer and are not re-directed through MsnTv's @LOOKUP. Tomasito has prepared a page demonstrating load times when using Real URLs HERE |
Our regular URLs go through MsnTv's @LOOKUP sorting-house which matches our short URLs to our pages. However, going through @LOOKUP apparently takes extra time, which may increase an image's load time. REAL URLs look like this: http://community-2.webtv.net/@HH!C6!68!5C0079A6531C/kdine4/gif/scrapbookFiles/importD10.jpg Compare the image's real URL above to its "Re-directed" counter-part: http://community.webtv.net/kdine4/gif/scrapbookFiles/importD10.jpg As you can see, my image's real URL includes a "-2" after "community" and these extra numbers & letters: "/@HH!C6!68!5C0079A6531C" The additional numbers & letters in your real ULRs will be the same for each image in each user-account. Follow these instructions to get your image's real URL:Go back to my tool-page (after reading these instructions), and if your URL isn't already there, then paste your Pagebuilder URL into the window at the Scrub-the-Web uploader and press the [CONVERT URL] button. Next, click on the long URL that you'll see on the next page. If you should click on the image's real-URL and it doesn't show for any reason (i.e., 404 - not found) - don't worry, the URL is still good ...use your GoTo button, hit "Show Last" and then "Return" and you'll then see your image. Scrub-the-Web was designed to process .HTML docs, not image URLs, so these false 404 warnings will usually occur there.
You can also quickly get all of the real URLs for every image on a published Pagebuilder webpage by first "Converting" the page's URL and then extracting the page's real URL...the "Extracted" images will then likewise have their real URLs in the extractor's results. This method does not work for images linked onto the page from other PB pages (e.g., from PB storage-pages) - this will only work for those images added to the webpage DIRECTLY from your scrapbook. The method of using Scrub-the-Web to obtain clean URLs was developed as a joint project of Ken Dine & Jo Carpenter (aka "dojocar").
