PAGEBUILDER FRAMESET INSTRUCTIONS

     These instructions are specifically for Msn's Pagebuilder.

     To have your music play continuously from page to page on your site you must make a Frameset page which the music will be installed upon. Think of this Frameset page as a "Window" that you will view your existing pages through.

     If you have any autostarted music on your existing pages it should be removed since it will stop the continuous music that you'll be placing on your new frameset page. Otherwise, you would edit your existing pages normally...the only difference is that you will instead use the URL of your new Frameset page to access your site when viewing it.

     Often, folks like to view a Slideshow through their Frame-page in order to have continuous music with it...if that's your intent, then I suggest that you create your slideshow first and then come back here for the Frameset instructions last - Click here for Slide-show instructions.

     This is the basic Frameset code that you would paste into the add-textbox of a separate webpage other than the one you want to add the music to (i.e., "Create" a new page to hold this Frameset code)...in order for this to work on PCs too, you must use one of the Advanced Editor (AE) methods to deactivate Pagebuilder's template <BODY> tag (the AE code that you'd also add to your add-text box
is in GREEN below):

~~~~~~~~~~~~~add-text box~~~~~~~~~~~~
*/ //--></script></head><frameset rows="99%,*"><frame src="URL_Start-Page-here.html"><frame
src="URL_music.mid">
<noframes><body bgcolor="#ffffcc"text="#000000"><center>This Page Uses Frames - if you are frames-capable, please Reload (CMD+R) if you are reading this. If your browser doesn't support frames, then please enter here:
<a href="URL_Start-Page-here.html"target="main"> [Click Here]</a>/center>
<bgsound src="URL_music.mid"loop="-1"></body>
</noframes></frameset>
~~~~~~~~~~end add-text box~~~~~~~~~~~

     Where it says
<"URL_Start-Page-here.html" you would put the URL of your site's first "Start page" twice in the code.

     Where it says
"URL_music.mid" within the <noframes> tags you would put the URL of your linkable midi. Technically, the second <frame src="URL_music.html"> should be a webpage's URL on which you would have placed an autostarted midi, so you will need to autostart the mid on a separate webpage and then use that webpage's URL for the 2nd frameset source. [Click here] for directions on linking a Geocities stored midi to Pagebuilder.

      It would confuse a PC's browser having both <BODY> and <FRAMESET> tags on the same page, so in order to have a PC view your Frameset page you must use one of the AE methods to cancel out PB's template <body> tag (however, you may add a <body> tag WITHIN the <noframes> tags). [Click here] for an AE tutorial.

     What you have within the <noframes> tags is what a non-frames browser will see when they access your page (so, this is a back-door for them and that's why a <BODY> tag is allowed there). Also, folks who may miss-load your page will see this back-door entry too...however, they can usually enter normally if they're told to reload (CMD+R). For more info on the <noframes> tags [Click here] .

NOTE: After your webpage is published you MUST return to your title-box and add the opening AE code to it [Click here] for directions.

     Using Frames also has its disadvantages...for more info on Frames and the <frameset> tag [Click here].

CC&P the code here:

(NOTE: This is a very fast show set at 3 seconds per picture (and, just 3 pictures) - however, the pictures are being pre-loaded and each picture won't change until the next one is fully loaded, so the 2nd run through them is usually even faster.)

PAGEBUILDER SLIDE-SHOW INSTRUCTIONS

     These instructions are specifically for Msn's Pagebuilder.

     Pages can be automatically turned by using meta refresh tags which should be placed into your page's <HEAD>, but will also work in your page's  <BODY> (i.e., added to your Add-text box):

<meta http-equiv="refresh"content="5;url=URL of next webpage">

     Even though you can't see them unless you source-view your pages, hidden HTML tags are added in the templates of all Pagebuilder webpages, so if you don't already know what the <HEAD> and <BODY>  tags are, then you can learn about the basic Pagebuilder webpage template format here: Webpage Anatomy 101.

     This is the code that you would place in the Add-text box of your first slideshow page when using the Advanced Editor (AE) method (the AE code
is in GREEN below:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~add-text box~~~~~~~~~~~~
*/ //--></script><meta http-equiv="refresh"content="5;url=your.page2.html"></head>
<body text="#cccccc"bgcolor="#666666"link="#ffcc00"vlink="#ffff99"><center>
<img src="URL of image1"width="##"height="##"border="##"alt="describe the picture here"></center>
~~~~~~~~~~end add-text box~~~~~~~~~~~

     You would add the above code to each successive page in your Slide-show - however, you must change the URL of your next page from
"url=your.page2.html" to "url=your.page3.html", and so on. You can also adjust "content=5;" (which is "5 seconds") if you want your visitor's time viewing that particular picture to increase or decrease - for example, if you place a long caption with your picture you surely would want your visitor to remain longer to read it.

CC&P the code here:

    Click here to see a sample of this code in action - (there will be no music since this sequence of photos isn't being viewed through a frameset window).

     This slideshow was pre-loaded by putting this code at the bottom of this page and also on each page in the slideshow:

<embed src="/kdine/slideshow/index.html"width="1"height="1">

     Pre-loading the next picture while you are viewing the current picture speeds up the process considerably.

The AE METHOD

     The Advanced Editor (AE) FIX is actually a very easy process, and it usually takes less than one minute to set up your pages after you learn this simple two-step method for installing it.

     Since it validates the best, this NEW AE method additionally uses javascript multi-line comments (<!-- /* &  */ // -->) tags within the script tags:

</title><script><!-- /* and */ // --></script></head>

     However, the javascript multi-line comments aren't really necessary for this to work on our webbie browsers and many PCs. So, if the multi-line comments are too complicated for you, in the beginning just use the<script> and </script>tags. Later, after you get your backgrounds working you can add the comments for your PC visitors (some PCs may get a javascript pop-up warning if you don't add them, primarily AOL users.)

     You can begin your AE FIX when creating a page from scratch by first choosing a template background (any will do since it won't show later), and then give your page a short title (lower-case is best with no punctuation...and, one word is preferable.)

     WARNING #1 - Adding the AE code to your Title-box PRIOR to first publishing your page will improperly add the opening AE code to your page's URL...and, you don't want that to happen!

     WARNING #2 When you initially publish your page you will then see this check-box below your Title-box:

 Show this title on your page

     NEVER check the "Show title on page" box! (On ANY page - really bad things will happen if you do :-)   Make certain that it's UN-CHECKED and looks exactly like this before you publish your page:

 Show this title on your page

(*NOTE: If this AE Fix is to a previously published page, then you can skip the above part and add the AE Fix to your existing page by following the simple 2-STEP directions below):

STEP #1:

Simply add the AE code (
*/ // --></script></head>) and your <BODY> tag to the very first add-text box on your page:

  Add text to your document

   Type a title (optional):

   Type your text here:

Text size:  SmallMediumLarge

Text style: Plain  Bold     Italic
        Item 1 (of 4)

     If the AE code is being added to a new page not yet published,
THEN PROMPTLY PUBLISH THE PAGE NOW!
 (i.e., to set your page's URL prior to adding the AE code to your Title-box in
Step #2):

STEP #2:

     After your webpage is published you MUST return to your Title-box by choosing "Edit title" and add the opening AE code to it:

</title><script><!-- /*

     This is what the "Title-box" looks like where you will place the 2nd part of your AE code - I had originally named my webpage simply "forms" (to keep my Url short), so we'll use that page-title in this example - now that your page's Url is set, you can also delete the short title and give your page a longer title at this point, too:

  Title for your page

clear.gifThe title appears at the top of your page (if you choose to show it) as well as in the list of your pages.

  Type your page's title:

 Show this title on your page

     After you add the
</title><script><!-- /* tags to your Title-box, then publish your page again, and that's it! You should now see your background!

     It really doesn't matter if you do
STEP #2 first, and STEP #1 second, as long as the AE code is added to a previously PUBLISHED page with its Url already set....this is just in the order that I usually do it.

     Continue to edit your page normally after you have applied the AE Fix to it, but it's always best to place your entire page's content into the one add-text box below your added <BODY> tag.

     After any pagebreaks, simply add the AE code (
*/ // --></script></head>) and your <BODY> tag to the very first add-text box on your next page...the previously added AE code in the Title-box will also cancel out the template <Body> for any pages added after a pagebreak.

     I use the new </title><script><!-- /* and */ // --></script></head> AE method because it seems to work better with complex javascript and it validates the best, and it's the most PC-friendly method to use.

     Go here to see a graphic demonstration how the added AE tags relate to Pagebuilder's hidden template tags.

     If the above didn't answer your questions on the AE method, then here are links to more in-depth tutorials and commentaries:

Title and description for your page

The title appears at the top of your page, if you've chosen to show it. The title and description appear in the list of your pages.

  Type your page's title:

  Type your page's description:

 Include this page in your public list of pages

     This is what the "Title-box" looks like when you access it from your Pagebuilder's index list of pages...when you access the Title-box this way, instead of the "Show title on page" check-box, you have the Description-box & the Public-list check-box.

     Click [HERE] to see how the Title-box looks when it's instead accessed from Pagebuilder's sidebar link.
