PRESS RELEASE: Libertarians nominate 12 candidates in South Carolina.

The South Carolina Libertarian Party held its 16th Bi-annual State Nominating Convention in Columbia on April 17, 2010. The delegates from around the State nominated 12 of the candidates that had filed for the November 2, 2010 General Election.
The U.S. House candidates that won the nomination are Keith Blandford from the Charleston area running for District 1, Eddie McCain from the Lexington area running for District 2 and Rick Mahler from Spartanburg running for District 4.

Tim Moultrie of Lexington won the only State wide nomination for Superintendent of Education.

There were 8 candidates receiving nominations for State House races. Most are located in the Upstate. Anderson County had 2 nominees Michael Carmany for district 8 and Doug Taylor for district 9. Greenville had 3 nominees, Steven Edwards for district 18, Jason Macias for district 20 and Laird Minor for district 27. Daniel Curry of Laurens was nominated for district 14. Stan Smith from York was nominated for district 48 and Victor Kocher of Richland won nomination for district 76.

This has been an outstanding time of candidate filing and nominating for the Libertarian Party. There were many more inquiries about running as a Libertarian and a large increase in membership. Citizens who are seeking a real change in government should learn about the Libertarian party. Less Government; Lower Taxes; More Freedom; if you want a real change in government, not just talking about it but changing it, vote for the Libertarian candidates.

TEA parties are not GOP groups

The Tea parties, the "Boston TEA Party" or whatever Taxed Enough Already groups are called they are great. The Libertarian party has been protesting on April 15 for years. We have had LP members protest at the Post Offices that would stay open till midnight on TAX day so late filers could pay their homage on time. Now one of the political parties we have protested against are "establishing common ground to work on" with the TEA party coalitions. The Republicans are just as much to blame in the decline of the constitution and growth of government as the Democrats are.
I have been asked repeatedly why the Libertarian Party is not using the TEA parties. Well here is some history about the TEA party movement. The TEA parties came to prominence in 2008 when the Libertarian Party of Illinois planned to hold an April 15, 2009 anti-tax "Boston Tea Party" in Chicago.

In February 2009, the idea grew after CNBC personality Rick Santelli, speaking from the floor of the Chicago stock exchange, criticized the Obama administration's tax and economic policies and urged Americans become Tea Party activists.

In fact, the idea began as the Boston Tea Party in 2006. It was founded by a group of former Libertarian Party members who criticized the party for its "abdication of political responsibilities," declaring that "Americans deserve and desperately need a pro-freedom party that forcefully advocates libertarian solutions to the issues of today." The Boston Tea Party opposed statism at all levels. "The Boston Tea Party supports reducing the size scope and power of government at all levels and on all issues, and opposes increasing the size, scope and power of government at any level, for any purpose."

Unlike the GOP who wants to exploit the Grassroots TEA movement. The South Carolina Libertarian Party offers a real Constitution based party of smaller government. I ask all TEA party members and the Upcountry Coalition of Conservative Organizations to question, is the GOP really your friend. Contact the South Carolina Libertarian Party for more information. We support your party independent groups and we will offer candidates that believe in the Constitution and Freedom.

Press Release: Governor proclaims June 28 as "Carolina Day"

Governor Sanford has proclaimed June 28 as Carolina Day in response to a resolution passed by the South Carolina Libertarian Party June 7, 2008 as follows.
WHEREAS the State of South Carolina has an extensive and honorable
history of acts of bravery in defense of personal liberty; and
WHEREAS such history tends to be forgotten and is no longer passed on
to new generations as vigorously as in the past; and
WHEREAS on June 28, 1776, South Carolina military forces triumphed
over both the Royal Navy and the British Army at the Battle of
Sullivan's Island, an event noted to this day in our state seal and
on our state flag; and
WHEREAS the celebration of this historic victory for personal liberty
and freedom from tyranny should be celebrated by all citizens of the
Palmetto State; therefore be it
RESOLVED that the South Carolina Libertarian Party calls on the
Governor and the Legislature of the State of South Carolina to
declare June 28 to be henceforth a state holiday, to be known
statewide as Carolina Day.
Governor's Proclamation
MARK SANFORD
GOVERNOR
STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA
WHEREAS, South Carolina is blessed with a rich history of noteworthy
contributions to our nation's struggles for the attainment and
preservation of the American ideals of liberty and
democracy; and
WHEREAS, on June 28, 1776, the battle for Sullivan's Island was the
first decisive victory of the Patriot cause during the
American Revolution; and
WHEREAS, this battle considerably boosted American morale, with a
sizeable British fleet and army soundly defeated and British
pride seriously wounded; and
WHEREAS, the 2008 observance of "Carolina Day" celebrates the 232nd
Anniversary of the Battle of Fort Sullivan and reminds us of
the legacy of freedom it helped secure.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Mark Sanford, Governor of the Great State of
South Carolina, do hereby proclaim June 28, 2008, as
CAROLINA DAY
throughout the state and encourage all South Carolinians to learn more
about the Battle of Fort Sullivan and to celebrate this significant victory for
the American cause in the Palmetto State.

The South Carolina Libertarian Party wishes to thank Governor Sanford for joining us
in reminding the Citizens of our State of the rich heritage and encouraging history education.

South Carolina Libertarian Party Press Release for release April 28, 2008

Charleston, S.C.---On April 19, 2008 the South Carolina Libertarian Party in convention elected
Michael Carmany of Anderson as the state party Chairman of the SCLP. Victor Kocher of Richland County was picked as Vice-Chair.

Chairman Carmany is small business owner in Anderson County and a leader in the Anderson County Libertarian Party.

After the convention Chairman Carmany said:

I want to thank the Delegates of the South Carolina Libertarian convention for supporting me and giving me the opportunity to serve as Executive Chairman for the next Election cycle.   I believe that 2008 is an opportunity that cannot be passed up. Many Republican and Democrats are disillusioned and are searching for an alternative political party. I believe that the Libertarian Party is that alternative.

We are citizens, voters that are tired of being told sit down, shut up and fall in line vote for who we tell you to vote for. We have the power to make the 2 party system a 3 PARTY OPTION and open the way for more options.

Let's STOP the system that selects who we can vote for and start electing more options. The Libertarian Party truly stands for smaller Government with less spending. We are not bound to the commitments that entangle the 2 big parties. We are bound to the citizens, the voters who are supposed to be represented.

I want to invite R's and D's to learn about the Libertarian Party. Join and help build the new Big Party. Many elections are determined when the Primary is run. The primary is the race held by the party to determine who will be the candidate in the real ELECTION which occurs in November. Sadly the majority of November Elections are held unopposed. We need to have a choice of candidates and policies to choose from. I hope to push the growth of the South Carolina Libertarian Party by showing it is the sensible fiscally conservative choice for freedom. (end)

ACLP Press Release: GOP or RINO's
 For Release; 1-25-08

Once again the South Carolina GOP voters have demonstrated why I cannot in good conscience belong to the party again. The Republican Preference Primary has again voted for a genuine Republican In Name Only. Senator McCain is the true definition of a RINO. His legislation has consistently been anti-constitutional and un-republican, striking blows at Free speech, supporting government growth, increasing taxation and supporting illegal immigration. I think the result of January 19 points a direction of the SC-GOP that will re-elect Senator Graham, who is also a RINO in every way. Senator Graham does n ot represent the true Conservative beliefs of South Carolinians but because he claims to be a Republican the voters will blindly pull the lever to re-elect him to a 2nd term.

There is a conservative option for the voters of South Carolina. The Libertarian Party, THE PARTY of PRINCIPLES, is that option. The third largest party has been ignored and degraded as being composed of crazies. If this is true then Goldwater and Taft were crazy. The Libertarian Party principles are based on these great American Republicans who believed the Founding Fathers had a good idea in the Constitution. This campaign season almost all of the Republican presidential candidates called the name of Regan. What were Regan's principles based on? Do the names of Goldwater and Taft ring a bell?

If you are a true conservative, if you want smaller OPEN government, less taxes, and personal freedom find out about the Libertarian Party. When you elect a Libertarian candidate, there is one thing for sure you won't be voting for a RINO. Don't take a chance on the Democrat masquerading as a Republican. Vote Libertarian, support Libertarians and join Libertarians in taking back conservative government.
