NYC-UFO CITY
The CLOSE ENCOUNTER and UFO scene in and around NYC is vibrantly alive with many activities, groups, meetings, researchers, experiencers, authors-writers, broadcasters, and movie-makers. These include Budd Hopkins' Intruders Foundation, the New York Strange Phenomena Investigations, the Disclosure Network of NY, Culture of Contact, the UFO Roundtable, and S.P.A.C.E.
NYC is home to the one of the nation's earliest UFO research groups - Civilian Saucer Investigations (CSI-NY) - during the 1950s, and site of the largest American UFO Conference ever at the Commodore Hotel on 42nd Street in 1967.
The "Long John Nebel Show" late night radio talk show on WOR in the late 1950s and into the 1960s gave wide public exposure to the UFO topic. The late longtime Ufologist John Keel wrote his books here and hosted the NY Fortean Society meetings in the 1980s and 1990s. Whitley and Anne Strieber lived in Greenwich Village and Brooklyn Heights until the late 1990s.
