A KNIGHT OF THE KINGDOM

Far off in the distance the castle awaits
the Ladys return.
As the morning light appears shes hurries
off to meet a Knight of great honor.
He waits for her as he sees her riding
across the meadows.
Faster then the wind she rides to meet
him.

One day she ventured out of the castle
walls.
She was not permitted to do this, for fear
of her being captured.
So she dressed as a Fair Maiden to hide
her identity.
As a Knight went charging by her, his
horses hoofs, kicking up mud upon her
from the wet streets.
She hollared out, "how dare you."

Forgetting, she was but a Fair Maiden
covered her mouth with her hand.
As though not to have spoken those
words.
To a Knight of great honor.
She covered her face with a veil as
he approached her, climbing off his
horse.
He said, "Fair Maiden for with the
speed of my horse I did not see
you."

He knelt and taking hold of her hand
kissed it gently.
Asking her forgiveness, for being
so sightless.
She could not speak. As he rose she
looked upon his face, and saw the
sadness of what he had done.

She called him, A True Knight. She
then pulled out a blue scarf tieing it
around his sword, she said, "remember
this day for one day we will meet again."
She watched as he rode off to where
she did not know.

She watched each day out the castle
window as the Knights would ride by.
She would see him and the blue scarf
she gave him still tied to his sword.
She never left the castle again for fear
of falling in love.
She wanted so to reach out to him to
tell him.

One day there was a sound that hit
the castle doors.
As she ran out of her room and down
the stairs, the door flew open and that
which she feared was upon her.
She ran as fast as she could to hide
only to be caught.

Then she heard the pounding of horses
hoofs, and when she looked up there
he sat, high upon his horse, his sword
drawn and the blue scarf tied to it.
He said, "My Lady you are safe now."
As he slid down off his horse, looking
into her eyes, he said," it is you Fair
Maiden," as he knelt taking her hand
and kissing it gently.

She said, "rise My True Knight", and
as he did, she looked upon his face.
Taking the torn scarf from his sword
she tied another blue one on it.
He bowed to her saying, "thank you
My Lady, I did not know."

Far off in the distance the castle awaits
the Ladys return.
As the morning light appears shes hurries
off to meet a Knight of great honor.
He waits for her as he sees her riding
across the meadows.
Faster then the wind she rides to meet
him.
