She places a shawl over her head as
though she is hidden from the darkness.
She walks the avenues, hearing the
sound of footsteps approaching she
lowers her head as the passerbyers foot
steps slow down.

She quickens her footsteps to escape,
hearing the clicking of her heels echoing.
Heading for the pier to hear the sounds
of the ocean, she stands watching as a
sailboat pulls in.
Silence fills the air. No one appears from
the sailboat.

She turns and walks away to a nearby
cafe.
As she enters, and makes her way to
an empty table.
A smoke filled room, little lighting,
soft music playing.
Shadows dancing on the walls.
She sits waiting.

Many a night she has done this.
As she hears a whisper "are you
waiting for me?" In a soft voice she
answers, "yes".
She stands looking out her bedroom
window.
As she watches his shadow passing
by behind his drawn curtains.
Her secrets in the night, the mysteries
of her mind.
When darkness sets in, plays on.
