I cannot seem to find the words
to write down on paper.
Though I have done many times
before, with no effort at all.
It seems as though I start to
write and the words tumble
and fall.

I tear the sheet into a thousand
shreds, watching them fall to
the floor.
Where are the words when I
need them most of all.
It should be simple, not this
hard from what I do recall.

I wish my heart would speak to
me.
Tell me this is right. How to say
goodbye in a gentle way.
As my teardrops fall on empty
paper, my heart is quiet and
still.

Maybe this isn't meant to be.
For the words are hard to say.
How can the word goodbye be
said when my thoughts are
saying stay.

I searched deep down within
my soul.
To find the answer there.
And found it filled with so much
love, enough for me to share.

My heart took over then, with
wisdom did it speak.
I began to write.
I am writing to say goodbye, but
only for a time.
My heart I will leave with you,
to hold onto while I am gone.

There is no need to say so long
as I will soon return.
When I do return to you forever
I will stay.
