Assembled here is an assortment of my Suzuki V-Strom accessories. Most of them were created out of a need for more comfort for around town and distance riding.

DL650 Skid Plate

I thought a medium-duty skid plate best for this bike, made of steel with a urethane finish, it weighs approximately 4 pounds and the oil and filter can be changed without removal. This skid plate will support the bike when lifted with a Motorcycle/ATV jack.

Motech or Hepco & Becker centerstands will fit fine with the skid plate in place. However, to use the OEM centerstand requires removal of approximately 5mm from the face of the forward barrel spacers on the OEM centerstand mounting brackets to allow the skid plate bracket to sandwich beneath them. There is also a small amount of material on the area opposite of the stop on the OEM stand that needs to be ground off to assure that this particular centerstand can extend to its full locked position and clear the rear mounting bracket of the skid plate. This only applies to the lefthand side of the stand.

This is the skid plate made with a 1/4 inch ABS plastic pan in place of the metal lower pan shown above. Weighs in at 2 pounds.

Shift Lever Guard - DL650 only

Several Stromers had related to me that they had broken their shift lever and after breaking my own shift lever and having to push my bike home, I decided to fabricate a guard. The guard protects the forward portion of the shifter from forward impacts as well as from beneath, unlike a spring loaded shift lever.

Radiator Guard - DL650

A new accessory for the wee Strom, it was a great suggestion from a fellow Stromer. I used a material that we have quite a bit of experience with, black 1/4" ABS plastic, for the frame and a diamond pattern expanded sheet grille that matches the air ducts on the nose.

The guard attaches on each side using the left and right cowl-to-radiator bolts and sits flush against the radiators caps allowing 1/2 inch between it and the radiator core. I've also added felt pads to the back of the guard to avoid possible scuffs or marring to the radiators caps.

DL1000 Radiator Guard

Unlike the current laser-cut stamped radiator guard offerings, this radiator guard features a contoured 1/4 inch ABS frame and an inner mesh area. I've been told by most Stromers that black is the preferred color for this item, so black it is.

Oil Cooler Guard - DL650/1000

This oil cooler guard replaces the stock item to assure better protection from rocks, sticks, etc.

Switchplate - DL650 only

While on a ride with a fellow weeStromer, he had made the suggestion that an item like this would be very useful for mounting toggle switches, indicator lights or even an ohmmeter.

Made of 1/4" ABS, it can be easily drilled to accomodate any number of different switches or indicator lights, etc. Wires from these switches can be easily zip-tied to the main electrical harness from the ignition switch. Prevents unnecessary drilling or cutting of the upper portion of the cowling.

The Driver's Backrest

The V-Strom DL650/1000 Driver's Backrest

This item has really helped with low back pain I've had over the past few years and really gives a secure feeling on long rides. It has 4 adjustments forward and back and allows seat removal without removing the backrest. Also a great place to tie gear to.

The backrest includes knobs so that it can be easily removed from its mounting brackets.

I've recently added the ability to adjust the tilt of the backrest cushion on the driver's backrest.

Passenger Backrest DL650/DL1000

Cheryl will absolutely not ride without one!

This backrest is adjustable forward and back 3 positions for different size passengers and attaches quickly using the two knurled knobs. It also features twin support posts for added strength.

Color coordinating the Stroms. We've recently made a few of these alternating the colors.

Cushion with backing plate alone can also be attached to the face of a hard luggage topbox.

Soft Tailbag Extension Plate

This aluminum platform attaches on top of the backrest brackets using the same two knobbed bolts that hold the passenger backrest in place. It can be used with or without the backrest mounted. Measures 10" x 12". Two holes placed at the rear corners will accept 1/4" bolts which, when installed from beneath, will provide a no-slip attachment point for bungees.
