CHRISTMAS PRESENTS

There's funny looking things under the tree,
He wonders what on earth they could be.
Square and long and big and small,
Out in the floor, and against the wall.

Wrapped in red, blue, silver, gold and green,
The prettiest things he's ever seen.
He wonders what's in that one or this...
It's too good an opportunity to miss.

He reaches for one, oh, the noise it makes.......
He just can't resist it, for Heaven's sake!
He turns around to see if she looks,
But she's busy wrapping some books.

One little paw reaches around,
The one on top comes falling down.
And as it falls quite soundless,
The fun he has with it is boundless.

One, two, three, and more,
They fall down upon the floor.
He wonders what each one will hold....
What's in the red......the green.....the gold?

Paper and ribbons all over the floor,
He hears her coming and gets one more.
The sight she beholds, oh, my!!
Should make her sit and cry.

All that time spent getting them just so,
And now they'll not be ready to go.
But she loves this little fellow, you see.....
And knows how bad temptation can be.

She understands his way of thinking, so.....
As he's filled with remorse and woe,
She picks him up and laughs with glee.....
I guess you can tell.......it's my cat and me!

Dedicated to my cat, Oscar, who was a scoundrel and a thief. He loved shiny things so much!
