SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST (work notes)
It didn't take long, but I am about to start on my next rewrite and polish job, "SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST".
I'm pretty excited about this particular script, because it is one of the first things that I had actually written with the big screen in mind (in early 1988 if you can believe that).
I started reading over the script a couple of days ago, yesterday to be exact, and I would just like to say: "OH BOY!", first of all, without giving anything away yet, the very beginning of this script reminds me a whole hell of a lot of "INDEPENDENCE DAY" (one day when I'm rich and famous, I'll tell you all about my reaction the first time I saw the preview for "INDEPENDENCE DAY"). So one of my first jobs is to eliminate all of that from the script.
I should have a lot of fun fixing this script up because, although I have a lot of good stuff and ideas in this piece of work, it is all cluttered in a mess of dialogue and back and forth action. To give an example of what I'm working with, this script is 211 pages of hand written text long.
Wish me luck.

Wish me luck, in deed.
Today is July 23, just about 3 months since I began work on this project (and I use the term work loosely), and I have exactly nothing to show for all of that time. Well, that's not totally true, I did read over the not ready for prime time script, and I jotted down a couple of notes to help with the actual rewrite and polish. Plus, I managed to finish exactly..... a page and a half of script.
My main problem is that I'm really unsure of how to tackle this massive rewrite and polish job. Just this morning, I think I have decided to use the same tactic that I used to write RACHEL, which is to re read it again and outline it scene by scene and then use those notes to re create the entire script. Now, saying that is one thing, but actually doing it is another.
And if I can't make any headway this time, I'll shelve the project until a later date. That, however, will be the worst case scenario.
Again, wish me luck.

Unfortunately, I have put this project on hold for the immediate future.
