Noir fantasy... fantasy that doesn't necessarily end with a "happily ever after." Fantasy that skirts the edge of reality. Fantasy that sometimes does ( or sometimes does not ) have a moral to the tale. Not as pitch black as horror, in which evil triumphs. But noir is there on the borders of the shadowlands of the soul. Sometimes there is a thread of ironic humor to make one laugh --- just a little bit. And there might be enough of the macabre to make one feel a little shudder as well. Like a paradox, it isn't always what it seems. There is a sense of sinister about it. There is just enough beauty in its phantasmagoria to make you sigh and just enough sardonical horror to make you scream.
