This is a very difficult lineage to trace. My great-great grandmother lost family on The Trail of Tears, and was so intimidated by the "white man", that she claimed to be of French ancestry rather than admit her Cherokee heritage. I am pretty sure that it was her mother who instilled this fear in her. It wasn't until after her death that her family learned the truth. Great-great Grandma had hidden her Indian papers in an old trunk which she kept locked. My mother, at age twelve, had been allowed to see those papers, but only because Great-great Grandma had not believed that Mom was old enough to comprehend what she read, but my mother had understood every word. Therefore, a lot of the family history listed here is only heresay. Should anyone want to add to or take away from the following, please let me know. |
