LETTER FROM PHIL MCARTHY

Date:    Tue, Aug 30, 2005, 9:43pm (PDT+3) From:    Phil Dilloway Subject:    Re: USS Robert L. Wilson To:    GEROLD RICKS SR **********************************************
Here is what Phil McArthy wrote to me.

Thanks for the message from Tom Fenton. I had just about given up on finding his email address.
I'll send him an email to renew old times.
Not long ago Bob Sanford [officer on the Wilson at the same time as Fenton and me] contacted me. Great to hear from him after all these years.
FYI, my wife had visited the Wilson web site one time, and Bob found her comments and sent her an email. That's how he found me, and we just recently exchanged long emails about the events of the last 50 years or so. BTW, he has now joined the Wilson Association [which you might already know].
I'll be thinking of the reunion gang when they are in D.C. I'm sure sorry I could not make this one. Should be a super event.
Hope you are feeling fine. I'm doing OK as long as I keep up with all my medical chores.
Thanks again for Tom's info.
Regards,
Phil McArthy

This is Janet  and I  wrote you about my dad Daniel J Scholl. Well I am writing to you to give you a update of my father. They have moved my father to a home in New Port Ritchie Southern Pines Number is 727-842-8402 If they go to visit him I would call first just in case they move him again. One of the shipmates asked what my dad's illness is well he has a Kidney Dialysis three times a week and is on a donor list. The reason he is where he is now is because he has an infection on a value around his heart and has caused a blood infection also so he has to have three doses of antibiotics  a day other wise he could have a major stroke that could kill him. Right now he is doing ok but , I still have not talk to him yet I'm hoping this weekend. It will be nice if they bring him a hat but my mom is afraid it might not make it home with him when he does come home. I will keep in touch and thank you so much for the info.    Janet

I had a very nice visit with your dad and mother, and it was very heart warming to see an old shipmate again. It was the greatest experience I believe, that I ever had in my later life. If you can, when you see him, give him my home address: 2708 W San Gabriel, Fresno, CA.
93705. He would like to send a photo to me to put on the Ship's Crew Page. Or, you could Jpeg it to me yourself. I want to wish you and your family All of God/s Blessings in the days ahead. Sincerely, Gerold G Ricks

Jerry ,
No my dad is still on the waiting list for that kidney. They found out that when he was sick this last time that his valve from his heart was scared and had something on it so they had to operate because that was what was cause his congestive heart failure all the time. So now he has about six weeks of rehab to go threw. Then maybe they might be able to find him a kidney. He has to stay heathly for about six months before they will even think about it. thank you for writing me back.

SHIPMATE ROBERT (BOB) ARNDT ON BINNACLE LIST

E-mail message
Thu, Aug 5, 2004, 5:15pm To: DD847@webtv.net Subject: FW: Binnacle list
From: Phil Dilloway ------------------------------------------------------------------- Here is the follow up to our conversation concerning my father-in-law, Robert Arndt. Bob has been diagnosed with lung cancer and is not in good health. He is currently at home, under hospice care, spending time with his wife, Patricia, their four children and their families. In spending time with him I have learned quite a lot about your ship and the crew that he served with. He is a very proud man, both of his service and the friends that he made in the process. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers. Cards or letters are welcome and I am sure they will make him feel better. His home address and phone number are the same from previous reunions. Any e-mails that you or any others would like him to get can be sent to me and I will see that he gets them. The address is below. Thank you for everything that you have done. When this is accomplished, donations will be accepted for that scholarship. This letter went out on Wilson Association stationery. I sent the old style cap and the new pen with it. It is the least we can do for a shipmate.

Dear Richard,
A little bird told us that you had been on the Binnacle List. Well, not a bird. Actually it was a seagull. Anyhow, we understand that you are on the mend and will soon be ready to stand watch.
Your shipmates in the Robert L. Wilson Association are always concerned about the welfare of crew members just as we were in the days when we manned the Wilson together. The enclosed is to remind you of those happy days. We have a web site. The address in on the bottom line of the pen. See if someone at Memory Lane can take you by computer to our web site. I know you will have a pleasant visit with your old ship.
Take care of yourself. We will be mustering at our annual reunion in Savannah, Georgia this year. If you get a chance, drop us a line and we will read your greeting at our Business Meeting.
Sincerely yours,
Phil Dilloway
Secretary/Treasurer

SR" Subject: Re: Robert L Wilson Date: Hi! What a beautiful web site you have!!!! My uncle was in from 1947 through 1951. I think he was on the Wilson most of the time. His name is Richard Charles Say. He is from Grove City, Pa. He now resides in a personal care home in a section called Memory Lane. This place is called Countryside, 8221 Lamor Road, Mercer, Pa. 16137. He had a bowel cancer operation last fall and was under for over 8 hours, and never made it back to his normal self. The V A Hospital in Butler, Pa. took very good care of him. We enjoyed visiting weekly and talking to the other Vets there. During that time, all the talk of war was hard on him. As I'm sure with a lot of Vets. Anyway, Uncle Dick lives a lot in his service time now. He know us and enjoys talking about the Wilson. I think it must have been some of the most important times of his life. Any correspondence from other ship mates would be loved by him. If you would use my email and address then I can deliver and read to him. Thank you so much! ljsay@csonline.net

Subject: Old timer
Dear  Phylipp
My name is Ray  Drew  I live in Virginia Beach. I have an old timer friend that served on the WILSON some time in the 40s.I don't think he was a plank owner but he may have sailed on the first cruise. He talks fondly of the ship and remembers being in Italy. His mind is slipping but the  ship is important to him.I would love to put together some photographs and information on the ship and send it to him.Maybe someone remembers him.His name is Anthony [Tony] Cicerchia, he was a seaman cook.
Thank You
