FIGHTING ROUGH SEAS AND THE WAKE OF A CARRIER

This photograph of the Willie Boat was provided by our shipmate Jim Helriggle and shows the fun we had refueling and Fighting Rough Seas and the Wake of the Carrier for a drink of that good ole "Black Oil" we could smell all over the ship when they Topped Her Off !! If you look close, the Jack Staff was bent from that first big wave!!!

NOW LOOK CLOSE AND FIND THE SONAR DOME

This is the third photo in a series of three photos and this one was sent to us by shipmate Phil Dilloway who was Officer of The Deck that day. Shipmate Bill Massingale also sent the same photo and keeps it on his wall at home. The Three Photos were placed in the National Archives in 1952. This is when we walked on the Bulkheads and the Decks and what an Elevator Ride it was.!! Sub Duty was never this rough!! Tin Can Sailors earn their Sea Pay!!
