Gerard was born Jerry Dinome on May 11th 1958 in New York, New York. Gerard began his career as a fashion model and a TV commercial actor as a means to finance his college education. He has appeared in over sixty television commercials for companies like Pepsi, Panasonic, Chrysler, Chevorolet, and many others. He graduated from The University of Southern California (USC) with a degree in business. Gerard has also studied screenwriting, directing, cinematography and many other subjects at UCLA. Gerard considers his most practical actor training to be the Nina Foch Studio and at the Harvey Lembeck Comedy Workshop.
The Adventures of Superboy was Gerard's first regular television role. Gerard was 31 when he took over the part of Superboy. Twelve years older that John Haymes Newton. Seven years older than Christopher Reeve was when he took the part of Superman, and older than Dean Cain was when he left the role of Superman/Clark in Lois & Clark : The New Adventures of Superman. Gerard's combination of training and business savvy are why Viacom, the distributors of The Adventures of Superboy, hired Gerard as a producer and contributing writer for the show. In addition to portraying Superboy on TV, Gerard was featured on the films Dangerously Close, Tomboy and most recently, The First of May. His television appearances include the starring role in Welcome to Paradise, a television pilot which was shot on location in New Zealand. His guest-star roles include the series Murphy's Law, True Confessions, Melrose Place and Silk Stalkings.
Gerard has also had recurring roles in the soap operas Days of Our Lives and Sunset Beach. He auditioned for and was chosen to play Superman by the executive producer of Warner Brother Televisions Lois & Clark : The New Adventures of Superman, but was dismissed from the meeting after the same producer read his acting resume and discovered that he had previously starred in The Adventures of Superboy. He said to Gerard, "you've done this already, I want someone who hasnt acted before!". Then Gerard was dismissed from the room. Two weeks later Dean Cain was cast in the role.
