Picture Page!

Welcome!

Hello and welcome to the DX-midAMerica picture page! First, my dx shack. God gave us two ears, but many radios! I'm lucky to have a job I like and a job that affords me the ability to buy "toys"!

New setup - 1997

LEFT: Panasonic RF2200, FRG100, Kenwood R1000, Icom IC-R70,
CENTER: Palomar loop (1 of 2,) Drake MS8
speaker (though
most listening is really done on headphones,)
Drake SW2, Drake SW8 piled on top of two Radio
Shack recorders and MFJ 959B Tuner/Preamp.
RIGHT: DX-380, GE Superadio II, Realistic
PRO-2035, Panasonic RF 2900, Radio Shack DX-398. To left of PRO-2035 is RShack timer, $24 and priceless!
NOT SHOWN: Timewave DSP-599zx Audio Noise
Reduction Filter, which was bought after photo, Kiwa loop, 3 Uniden scanners , 1 bought after photo. TO THE LEFT of everything pictured: TV: Gold Star BMR 2120 b&w. It hauls in the dx!

OLD Setup: 1986-1996...

THE LEFT COLUMN: TOP: Panasonic RF2200
(for FM), FRG100, Kenwood R1000, Icom IC-R70.
(The loop to the left of the RF2200 is a Kowalski
loop, non-working, circa:1980)
CENTER: RF2900, Drake SW8
RIGHT: RShack DX-380, Bearcat scanner.
On the left of the phone is my frequency logbook. Yes, still use a 3 ring binder! Logbooks for: frequency, chronological and political unit. Behind phone are chronological and poliical unit logbooks.
You'll notice there's barely room to write or PUT a
logbook! :)
The Frequency logbook is opened while dx'ing to frequency I'm dx'ing on.

Sample Loggings from chronogical, frequency and political unit log books:

Never got into radio but....

...have a nice studio with carts/cassettes, nice music library, custom jingles (Ken R., Jam, Reelworld, others) commercials, etc. Though I never got into radio, it remains in my blood!

Hypothetical formats:
FM: 98-Winner, 98-7 Hit FM, Hot 99.9 and Power 101.1
AM:1-2-3 Cat, The Mighty 1490, 16 Winner
Top40 on FM, and oldies formats are featured on AM.

Tapes of these date back to 1974!

An interesting life!

That's DX-midAMerica.com editor on the left with his younger brother, Gregory. John:age 7 and Gregory was age 6.

A little later in life.....

Me at 50. It's not that bad! As my parents used to say "if I knew then what I know now!"

Where is Superior?

The correct answer is "in my mind." This picture is a portion of my model train layout. Everything I like in in town, hi. A radio tower, buses, a clean, nice downtown, billboards, road signage, good paying jobs, and so on. Named after Lake Superior.

And that's it! This is a fascinating hobby and life is good! After being in the hobby over three decades, the radios are accumulated. My favorites: Icom IC-R70, Icom IC-R75, FRG100 and R1000. Every radio does something the others don't! Still, the RF2200 and Superadio do almost anything the other radios do. The Radio Shack DX-398 with its RDS is phenominal for FM. Cost: US:$160. It's really about being in the right place at the right time as we all know! May we all have many wonderful years in this hobby, and may we all enjoy life itself! It's a great gift!
