The PAWA was a small wrestling promotion out of French Lick, Ind. Their tv program was only a 1/2 hour long and after about 6 months, the promotion folded. |
My favorite part of the show. It's a shame Lou only did a handfull of these interviews.
Lou did occasional commentary on the program also.
Legends Ox Baker and Lou Thesz.
In this interview, Ox says about Lou, "You know, 20 years ago this man knocked me down, and he said, "Ox you're gonna' have to learn", so I got this heart punch. And for 20 years I've been knockin' people out".
Lou: "When I was undisputed champion, I weighed 230 lbs. and was considered a pretty good
sized heavyweight. But today, why...I would be considered small at 230 pounds. This young man that I am standing with is 6' 4" tall and 275 pounds and he is lean as a greyhound. These people can move around the ring like middleweights, these heavyweigts today. And we didn't understand that in the past. We thought that if a fellow got just a little oversized, that we could move around him and ace him out with our speed and expertice. That doesn't seem to be true anymore."
Another Thesz interview with Ox Baker
Ox, "Yes I take punishment. 19 teeth have been knocked out. You knocked a few out, Lou Thesz.
I hate you".
Ring veteran Paul Christy
Christy was hilarious, rambling on and accusing Lou of interrupting him. Poor Lou, he could hardly get a word in
Christy goes loco and bites the mic
Lou's hanging on to the mic
Lou had plenty of praise and advise for Phillps
