As you know, memory is limited in the LBB.
There are several things you can do to make sure your WebTV is operating at the maximum connection speed.
To check your version and bps rate.
Go into setting,
Go to mail,
Go to word list,
Go to add word,
type in &vers; ( ampersand vers semicolon)
It will give you your current version.
Press Done
Go to add word again,
type in &rate; (ampersand rate semicolon)
It will give you your current bps rate.
There are some sites, such as eBay, that can not be accessed easily for listing auctions, or performing other auction related tasks, if your LBB has too much memory taken up by cache or too many cookies stored.
Listed below are some tips that will help speed up your operations:
One of the most important things to do first is to Turn off the IM (Instant Messenger).
This feature uses a lot of "squirrel power".
On your Home page, click on "Messenger" link on the top of the page, click on "IM off", click "Done".
You can disable IM on your secondary accounts by clicking on settings (on your primary home page) and selecting the secondary user name. Click on options you wish to use with each user name
1. Clean out your email files of unneeded correspondence.
This can accumulate quickly and some email messages can use a lot of storage. Move photos and attachments to your Scrapbook to save them.
Be sure to discard "sent" messages and "deleted" messages. They will continue to use storage space until they are discarded completely from your email files.
2. Use the option on "Favorites", under "Organize" to list your saved pages as text.
This will save the loading time for each of the thumbnail images that are displayed in your favorite files.
3. Clear the cache occasionally.
To do this, unplug your LBB, and wait at least five minutes before you plug it back in. When you reconnect and turn the unit on again, you will need to choose the option "calling from same location". Watch to make sure it is dialing a local number.
(If you ever have trouble connecting, try unplugging the LBB and then choose "calling from a different location". This will sometimes re-route your call, to bypass a problem area.)
4. Clean out the Cookies.
Cookies are a short cut, used by some sites, to store information about you. Each time you return to that site, information is available to the site. It may be a sign-on, or information about your surfing habits.

Others are available, do a search for "WebTV Cookie" on your favorite search engine, such as google.com etc. There are also some listed on the other "WebTV Help Links" on my "Me" page. Some will work on the 2.5.5 version, and others on the 2.6 and 2.7 version upgrade.
Some sites make changes to their cookies, (eBay) and you will need to delete the "old" cookie, and return to the site, through the homepage so that a "new" cookie can be set. (This is "supposed" to happen automatically, considering eBays vast knowledge of html coding for WebTV, take no chances!)
You will also need to save the most current page for a site in your favorites. If you have pages set on your F 1 - 7 keys, keep them updated to prevent the "page not found" message. Some sites will automatically redirect you to the newest page for a time.
5. If you get a grey pop-up 'Info that WebTV can't use", try holding down the "Cmd" key and tap the "R" key five times. Sometimes this reload will allow the page to be viewed.
6. "PAGE TOO BIG" Cure found on
alt.discuss.webtv.digital.video.email:
Turn WebTV off
Leave Television On
Press the Option Key 3 times slowly
Type the number 12357
Unplug the Unit from the Wall for about 15 seconds
Replug, Turn on WebTV
Press the "Move" Box if it comes up
No more "Page too big" messages.
