Make as many of these stands as you want once you get my kit to use for a pattern! This stand folds up almost completely flat for easy storing or transporting.
Most Gibson style banjos will fit this stand but some other brands may require some tweaking of the main base to properly fit.
I won't go into all the wood finishing except to say sand all the parts and choose a light stain because this wood soaks it up. I like to use a golden pecan. and finish with a couple coats of Polyurethane. Let all parts dry thoroughly before you start putting the stand together. Now lets get started! First take the pieces of plastic and staple them in position stapling about a 1/4 inch from the edge. This adds a little more padding where the resonator rests.
Turn it over and trim off the excess flush with the bottom of stand.
I like to use two sided carpet tape. I use the indoor outdoor fiberglass tape. I use this tape because it gives you the option to take the carpet back off to adjust the stand for a certain size banjo if you need to.
Cover the entire surface of the stand with the tape even over the hole. Do not overlap the tape because it would be hard to pull the paper off to expose the sticky stuff!
After pulling the paper off the tape, center the carpet rubber side up to the stand leaving a little overhang on all sides and press stand firmly onto carpet
With the stand face down add the tape to the inside edges and trim flush. No tape where the resonator sits. Make sure the edge of the tape comes in contact with the tape on the top. Peel off the paper exposing that sticky stuff, I just love that part don't you?
Cut the carpet strips to length and press into place again making sure carpet edge comes in contact with tape on the top then trim flush with bottom of stand. All edges except where the plastic overlaps should be covered.
Now mark the bottom tabs off. This is the carpet that will be folded over the plastic. Using a very sharp knife cut these lines and fold tabs up. See next picture.
Fold this tab over and staple on bottom of stand. Staple about 1/4 inch from edge and trim excess away so it does not interfere with hinge installation later.
After stapling and trimming both sides cut away the remaining center portion.
Now with stand face down trim all edges with a sharp knife on all four sides using the edge of the wood for a guide. On to next page.---------->>>
