This is my beloved persian cat Dickens & myself at the "International Cat Association" (TICA) cat show. He won "Best of the Best" in show. Along with allot of other beautiful "ribbons". It was a "proud" day. He is considered a " Grand Master" champion.
Dickens came to me quite by chance, "he is a true gift from God".
I had searched for about 3 months looking for a breeder that had "peak" faced or "flat" faced persians. Commonly known as "baby" faced persians. With out any luck. I also wanted the "Black/Smoke", a very hard color to breed.
One morning I was "praying" as I do every day. Some thing told me to call our local SPCA. On doing this, our SPCA told me they had just got a persian in that day that was very sick & about 12 weeks old.
I ran down to the SPCA & to my surprise upon seeing him for the frist time. There was a sick, shaved (from head to tail) Black/Smoke persian.
The SPCA was treating his illness & would not put him up for "adoption". or put him to "sleep" due to his breed.
Every day I went to see him for three weeks. Took toys, food, held him & loved him. Consulted with Veterinarys. Gave him "encouragement" & most of all "LOVE".
I was moving on Feb 14th (Valentines day) & first went to see Dickens. Upon getting there all the people at our SPCA that now knew me quite well by now, had "smiles" all over their faces. It was time he could go "HOME". I "ADOPTED" Dickens that day.....
So on "Valentines day" 1994. Dickens & I moved to our new home "together".
I was able to contact his original owners & found Dickens had come all the way from Salt Lake City, Utah by "American airlines". To this very small town in northern California. Beautiful Lake Oroville, Califonia.
It took me awhile to obtain his long pedigree papers..
Being a retired "Cosmetologists", I began to brush him all day long to encourage his shaved body to grow fur back.
I was also very "surprised" as his fur started to grow out. He was indeed a Black/Smoke.
"Cat shows" have always been of intreast to me. I have gone to many. Just to view "Persians". It was at one of these shows I first saw the beautiful Black/Smoke persian.
In 1995 Lake Oroville had it's first TICA cat show. All proceeds would go to our local SPCA to help support it.
I entered my Dickens in that show. Not only was it a day of "JOY" for me, forfilling a life long dream of mine to show. I met some wonderful friends both local & far away. But Dickens came out the "WINNER" of the show.
I felt this is a "heart warming" story to be shared.
It just goes to show you "you never know what you may find in your own back yard". Not only answered "PRAYERS", but a true "WINNER".
Dickens has not only won "RIBBONS" but the
"HEARTS" of everyone who meets him....
Dickens is now "retired" from ALL cat shows. He has suffered from "FUS" (Feline Urologic Syndrome) a common alment in male persians. But can be fatal if not treated with specail diet. He is "HAPPY", "WELL" & "VERY" much "LOVED" A "WINNER" of my heart. He was sent to me from GOD, Remember "ASK & YOU SHELL RECEIVE", & "WITH OUT HOPE WE HAVE NOTHING".....
I urge you to "SUPPORT" your local SPCA.Save a life, adopt a pet today.
I thank you & Dickens thanks you.
