FOR BARNABAS

by DivaMagenta

Though some revile and call you bad,
Scoundrel, monster, wretched cad,
They know you not in fullness, and
Fear what they will not understand.

You lost your very life and soul
By blackest forces best untold.
Then watched your friends and family fade
To death's eternal chilling shade.

It was the cruelest cut of all,
To remain behind and watch them fall.
Helpless, hopeless, grieving so.
Their fate you wished, but ne'er to know.

Yet despite chances unkind hand
You made a choice and took a stand
To seek mere mortals' counted hours,
And shun your dark seductive powers.

You struggle with a daily fight
To tame the beast and do what's right.
A wolf, enlightened, turned away
To leave behind his bloody ways.

So thus I pray these things for you:
That you remain forever true,
That you find peace and hope and grace,
And joy to shine upon your face.

And one sweet day - may it be near! -
You'll wake from slumber, finding here,
The lily, dry and dead as sand
Became a rose within your hand...
