~~~~ COOPERS CEMETERY ~~~~ COOPERS, W. VA.
This cemetery was recorded by KEN BOWEN, DAVID HAMBRICK and LEMOYNE HENDRICK on April 26, 2003.
This cemetery is also known as the COOPER CEMETERY as JOHN COOPER, founder of Coopers and coal operator in the area, was originally buried here. He was moved to a cemetery in Virginia and moved once again to his present place of interment at Bluewell, West Virginia.
Ken notes that this is a very rough cemetery with 36 tombstones, many graves with no markers and others with broken tombstones. Ken and company are owed the greatest graditude from the folks in the Shinbrier - Coopers area for their great work in recording this cemetery and thereby preserving its existence for us and future generations.
NOVEMBER 3, 2004 - A VERY SPECIAL NOTE BY ROBERT A. McREYNOLDS
Note to Ken, David & Lemoyne:
Admired your hard work so much I have this graveyard about 90 percent cleaned up. I should have it done in about 3 more days. I also have a different way of getting there. All is the same except turn right instead of going through gate and follow 4 wheeler trail. Will go about 1/4 mile then turn left and up hill to right. All the briers are gone and debris is cleaned up. Reset tombstones that were laying down. Really pretty up there now.
Also found additional information on the grave labeled Brown. This is base stone. I found tomb stone had sank into ground but wasn't damaged. Reading from top to bottom here is what was on stone. And appears to be single stone and 2 foot markers.
