July15, 1968 started out like a lot of days in Viet Nam.  An Eagle Flight into an unknown L.Z.. After an uneventful insertion, we made light contact and were engaged in a running fire fight.  We were moving to the northwest and another company was going to be inserted as a blocking force.
They hit a hot L.Z. and the slicks didn't land. As the helicopters pulled up and flew over us the door gunners mistook us for the V.C. shooting at them. The door gunners opened up with their M-60's.  They wounded Jon Kio, Michael Boyett, Curtis Hofsteiter, and John T. Lynn. The medic gave John Lynn what help he could. Sgt. Bruce, Bob Stumpf, and myself, Jim Toney, and others took him to the Dust Off.
On July 21, 1968, John was taken from this Earth and another sad chapter was written.
John will be remembered as a good friend.
                                                                         Jim Toney
