LP (LISTENING POST)

One night we were suppose to go out and make contact with the 514th VC REGIMENT. They asked me to take out a LP. Well, John Adame was an RTO at that time so I picked him, Joe Magnum and they sent a new medic with us. I think he is in one of your pictures, any way we popped a VC 3 feet away from us . Hell of a way to bring in a new DOC, I am sure he will always remember that long night. I know all 4 of us do.

The Following Incident Took Place On A Sunday Around The 1st Of March 68

We were suppose to be on stand down but Aco, and Cco walked in to a big ambush. They took us into Dong Tam by boat and then choppered us in to help them. The LZ was horseshoe and they were waiting for us don`t know why they didn`t hit us coming off the choppers but they waited for us to land then they opened up on us. I remember crawling for about 75ft to get behind a rice paddy dike when I got there the shit really hit the fan.We couldnt fire back cause we didn`t want to hit any of our guys that were from A and Cco. Some of the wounded were calling out for their mothers. We were pinned down for about ten hours . The dinks got behind us so Captain Jenkins had to call in gunships on our NDP. Around 2am Captain Jenkins and 6 or 8 of us made a assault, the shooting had stopped and we waited for morning. As far as I can remember Eco didnt have any casutlies. But As far for A, Cco they were hit hard.

DOC,I hadn`t thought about it for a long time. Maybe I didn`t want to remember those young men calling for their mothers before they died and we couldn`t do a damn thing to try to help them because if we fired back we may have hit our own guys. I`m sure you were there, but I know there are somethings I don`t want to remember about that place.
