Danny --- of Chula Vista, CA, for his third grade homework assignment. The assignment was to explain God. Wonder if any of us could do as well???
EXPLAIN GOD
"One of God's main jobs is making people. He makes them to replace the ones that die, so there will be enough people to take care of things on earth. He doesn't make grown-ups, just babies. I think because they are smaller and easier to make. That way He doesn't have to take up His valuable time teaching them to talk and walk. He can just leave that to mothers and fathers."
God's second most important job is listening to prayers. An awful lot of this goes on, since some people, like preachers and things, pray at times beside bedtime. God doesn't have time to listen to the radio or TV because of this. Because He hears everything, there must be a terrible lot of noise in His ears, unless He has thought of a way to turn it off."
God sees everything and hears everything and is everywhere which keeps Him pretty busy. So you shouldn't go wasting His time by going over your Mom and Dad's head asking for something they said you couldn't have." Atheists are people who don't believe in God. I don't think there are any in Chula Vista. At least there aren't any who come to our church." Jesus is God's Son. He used to do all the hard work like walking on water and performing miracles and trying to teach the people who didn't want to learn about God. They finally got tired of Him preaching to them and they crucified Him. But He was good and kind, like His Father and He told His Father that they didn't know what they were doing and to forgive them and God said "O.K."
His Dad (God) appreciated everything that He had done and all His hard work on earth so He told Him He didn't have to go out on the road anymore. He could stay in heaven. So He did. And now He helps His Dad out by listening to prayers and seeing things which are important for God to take care of and which ones He can take care of Himself without having to bother God. Like a secretary, only more important." You can pray anytime you want and they are sure to help you because they got it worked out so one of them is on duty all the time." "You should always go to church on Sunday because it makes God happy, and if there's anybody you want to make happy, it's God. Don't skip church to do something you think will be more fun like going to the beach. This is wrong. And besides the sun doesn't come out at the beach until noon anyway."
If you don't believe in God, besides being an atheist, you will be very lonely, because your parents can't go everywhere with you, like to camp, but God can. It is good to know He's around you when you're scared in the dark or when you can't swim and you get thrown into real deep water by big kids."
But...you shouldn't just always think of what God can do for you. I figure God put me here and He can take me back anytime He pleases." And...that's what I believe about God."
Greater LOVE hath no man than to lay down his life for his friends.
A VISIT FROM JESUS
letter. She picked it up and looked at it before
opening, but then she looked at the envelope
again. There was no stamp, no postmark, only her name and address. She read the letter:
Dear Ruth:
I`m going to be in your neighborhood Saturday
afternoon and I'd like tostop by for a visit.
Love Always,Jesus
Her hands were shaking as she placed the letter
on the table. "Why would the Lord want to visit
me? I'm nobody special. I don't have anything to
offer." With that thought, Ruthremembered her empty kitchen cabinets. "Oh my goodness, I really don't have anything to offer. I'll have to run down to the store and buy something
for dinner." She reached for her purse and counted out its contents. Five dollars and forty cents. "Well, I can get some bread and cold cuts, at least."She threw on her coat and hurried out the door. A loaf of French bread, a
half-pound of sliced turkey, and a carton of
milk...leaving Ruth with a grand total of twelve cents .Nonetheless, she felt good as she headed home, her meager offerings tucked under her arm.
"Hey lady, can you help us, lady?"
Ruth had been so absorbed in her dinner plans,
she hadn't even noticed two figures huddled in
the alleyway. A man and a woman, both of them
dressed in little more than rags "Look lady, I ain't got a job, ya know, and my wife
and I have been living out here on the street, and,
well, now it's getting cold and we're getting kinda
hungry and, well, if you could help us. Lady, we'd really appreciate it." Ruth looked at them both.
They were dirty, they smelled bad and frankly,
she was certain that they could get some kind
of work if they really wanted to. "Sir, I'd like to help you, but I'm a poor woman myself. All I have is a
few cold cuts and some bread, and I'm having an
important guest for dinner tonight and I was
planning on serving that to Him."
"Yeah, well, okay lady, I understand. Thanks
anyway." The man put his arm
around the woman's shoulders, turned and
headed back into the alley. As she watched them leave,Ruth felt a familiar twinge in her heart.
"Sir, wait!" The couple stopped and turned as
she ran down the alley after them. "Look, why
don't you take this food. I'll figure out something else to serve my guest."She handed the man her grocery bag. "Thank you lady. Thank you very much!" "Yes, thank you!" It was the man's wife, and Ruth could see now that
she was shivering. "You know, I've got another coat at home. Here, why don't you take this one." Ruth unbuttoned her jacket and
slipped it over the woman's shoulders. Then smiling, she turned and walked back to the street...without her coat and with nothing
to serve her guest."Thank you lady! Thank you very much!" Ruth was chilled by the time she reached her front door, and worried too. The Lord was coming to visit and she didn't have
anything to offer Him. She fumbled through her purse for the door key. But as she did, she noticed another envelope in her mailbox.
"That's odd. The mailman
doesn't usually come twice in one day." She took the envelope out of the box and opened it. Dear Ruth: It was so good to see you again. Thank you for the lovely meal. And thank you, too, for the
beautiful coat. Love Always Jesus The air was still cold, but even without her coat, Ruth no longer
noticed.
