Kim's vocal style has been compared to female vocalists such as: Natalie Merchant, Bonnie Raitt, Janis Joplin, and Sheryl Crow. Her musical influences include, Over The Rhine, Ani DiFranco, and Janis Joplin. In addition to her vocals she has written a number of the band's most popular songs, including: "Eddy", "Moth to a Flame" & "Cats and Dogs".
Kim's soulful vocal style has put her in demand as a vocalist in the area. In addition to her roles as lead vocalist in Junell Street and 2x12, she has also been the Lead and Background singer in Underground Angel, and has been in demand to do studio work for other area artists and songwriters. Kim is also a member of the Heartland Songwriter's Association of KY, and has contributed songs to two of the organizations compilation albums.
Gary has been a mainstay in the Central Ky music scene for a number of years. Performing both a solo artist and in area bands. He began playing at 12 and writing at 15. In addition to 12-String guitar he also plays 6 string guitar, bass, keyboards, drums, percussion, and several horns. In the 80's he struck up a songwriting partnership with long-time friend Derek Dennison. That union produced a number of songs including "Give and Take", "No Win Situation", and "Time Changes". His influences include, Michael Kelsey, B.B. King, Prince, and Chicago.
Like Kim, Gary is a member of the Heartland Songwriters' Association of KY and has contributed a couple of his songs to their compilation albums.
In addition to his role as one of the band's lead singers and lead guitar player. Gary is also the band's producer/engineer/manager.
Sonny has been involved in music professionally for more than 40 years. His first band was a country trio which opened for Loretta Lynn. During his career he has played everything from Pop to Blues, and from Country to Rock. He even owned a night club in Florida before retiring and coming back to Kentucky. He began sitting in with Gary, Kim, and some other area performers at Backstage Cafe' before coming out of retirement in late 2004 to join with Gary and Kim.
Sonny's style is strongly influenced by the Pop and R&B music of the 60's and 70's. He is the soul of Junell Street laying down a velvet smooth bass line, he also provides some "old school" blues vocals for the band, and lends his voice to their harmonies. After beginning his association with the band Sonny has become a songwriter as well, writing his first song "Sonny's Blues".
Bob decribes himself as being a "laid back drummer guy." A native of Cleveland Ohio, he moved to Kentucky in early 2005, and stepped in to replace the band's original drummer. His background was mainly Hard Rock and Metal playing with numerous garage bands in Ohio. But he fit right in with the band's Blues Rock style. The audiences enjoy watching him play. Looking so laid back and easy going as he pounds out the band's beat.
Bob's musical influences include Rush, and Led Zepplin.
Karen is Gary's younger sister and the latest member of the band, joining in November 2005. She is a natural soprano whose vocals fill out the band's upper range, creating a vocal "wall of sound" on many of the band's tunes. Her experience prior to Junell Street was mainly gospel and choral music. As her role in the band is expanding they are looking for ways to take full advantage of her vocal skills. Her influences include Kid Rock, Melissa Etheridge, Cher, Queen, and Three Dog Night.
