This amazing reading is worth study.

It is an actual Spanish Colonial journal about the trials and tribulations of the soldiers at the site of our farm, in the "Rincon", meaning narrow valley or corner nook, which, as explained below, was the earliest ranching area of Texas! Now the name is "Catchpenny Farm" but below it is referred to as "Rancho de San Rafael."

This describes visitors in 1519 prior to he landing of the Pilgrims in 1620!

Note what the indians did to the soldiers! Judy's great great grandfather was killed by the indians there later.

You will read how miserable we too feel down at the farm most days i.e. it was very likely just as hot and dry there this day as described below.

Professor Thonhoff's translation of these ancient documents is especially good for those interested in this period of pre Texas history. We have similar translations of other documents specific to the Rancho de San Raphel from deed and other documents and very old Spanish language records! To enjoy click below the pointing hand.....

We claim this in our history:

  • Floyde's favorite ancestor was Ambrose E. Burnside, Union Army Commaiding General

  • Heath's favorite ancestor was Lord Lovat, Scottish clan leader of olde
  • Kate's favorite ancestor was George Devilbiss who delivered the first protestant sermon in Texas
  • Hayley's favorite ancestor was William Burnside who first discovered group theory in mathematics

Sadly We Report The Loss Of Our Former Official Mascot And Happily Announce The Promotion Of Two Co-Mascots Below

Our beloved Former Mascot-Numero-Uno.....Mia, a long-haired chihuahua, was a mere 8 pounds of dog but a mighty100 pounds of courage. She is missed greatly and will be remembered for many years to come.

Belle has been promoted to Senior Co-Mascot along with Theo the little wonder dog at her side acting as Junior Co-Mascot.

Belle, pictured here and on the following pages is a fine full thoroughbred labrador retriever, held in training by Kate and Heath Simpson, is the object of much affection at all gatherings. Yes, she hunts well too.

Second in line as Co-Mascot to Belle as Supreme female "senior" dog, is Theodore the toy Pomeranian pup.

Ps - New mascot Ramona, a dingo, so wild she must be kept at the farm - even her friend Theodore, a name that means "gift of God" but he is so fierce he regularly bit our former senior Chihuahua mascot emeritus in many sneeky hilarious attacks cowers when Ramona is sighted and he gets irritable bowel syndrome and must be medicated heavily untill Ramona goes back to the farm.

We also are sorry to report the passing of Manchita, a typical street dog as you would see in any third world town or village especially Nuevo Laredo or Cuidad Acuna where her ancestors are believed to have been located. Also our cats have passed to the golden shore, all three of them, but over a period of almost twenty years but still, so sad.
