Crazy Quilt Front Yard

I have planted my front yard with ground covers. In spring, I covered the grass with layers of newspapers, with woodchips on top. Later, I planted the ground covers thru the paper.
No more mowing! Great!!
The colors of the ground covers make a crazy quilt effect. Spring brings first the early bulbs;winter aconite ,[Aranthis hyamalis], Anemone, Scillas siberica, and Chionadoxa; then a carpet of pink ,red and white Phlox subulata; double bloodroot, blue Ajuga, and Muscari. Later the greys and greens of Thyme and Phlox foliage make a restful quilt spiced up by the red foliage of Sedum. Soon the Thyme flowers; there is lots of lavender with a yellow flowering Sedum . Muscari dying foliage is covered with self seeded Portulaca. It adds many bright colors when July and August come. August also brings red and pink Sedum flowers.
Along the road I have planted a border of perennials and shrubs to add height and variety with small evergreens for winter interest.
All these ground covers are evergreen and attractive all winter.
My Crazy Quilt Front Yard brings me joy every time I look out my windows or walk its paths.
