A Widowed Frog
In June 1998 I bought two African Clawed Frogs, naming them Mr. and Mrs. hoping they were a pair. At six months it was evident they were. One was singing! In a year Mrs. died and my story is about the widowed frog. Together they had never tried to escape from the aquarium. Mr. sang for days then he rapidly swam around in his home. Then he escaped, I found him in the living room, put him back and covered the feeding hole. He escaped again, how I couldn't tell. I was greeting friends at the basement door, one flight of stairs down and Mr. surprised us by appearing. One Sunday when I came home from church he was no where to be found.I searched the whole house. Eight hours later he came out from under the refrigerator and was wet! Evidently he had found the drip pan. Putting him back I used heavy package tape to tape the cover on. He must have been pushing the cover up to get out. I renamed him Houdini. All this time he did not eat anything. After two months he was eating and acted like a normal frog.He doesn't sing very often. My oldest African frog was 9 when he died. My oldest garden toad in my greenhouse was 17.
I am glad to send the story. Thank you very much for asking. I have introduced your page to many friends. We all enjoy it. frogs are good friends.
