SE Lakefront Corridor Population Densities & Employment Centers

These diagrams (provided courtesy of NIPC with thanks) illustrate the high population densities and mulitple employment centers, along Chicago's SE Lakefront Corridor.

These high population densities (and the adjacent employment centers, and commercial development) were created by the proximaty of the Illinois Central RR's fine electric rapid-transit style rail service.

These same areas now suffer from a lack of coordinated full time transit service like all the other parts of the city presently possess, causing many potential riders to choose their cars over public transit.

But inauguration of Gray Line service would provide a CTA Rail Rapid Transit alternative to driving for the entire SE Lakefront Corridor, integrating into the areas existing transit network; and at $100 million for the WHOLE LINE, costing just a fraction of the regular expense of building a new 22 mile rail rapid transit line.
