Light rail, transit, and commuter rail news
by GEORGE M. SMERK
...A resident of South Chicago has urged that the CTA adopt the Metra Electric South Chicago commuter rail service and treat it as a rapid transit line. This would be dubbed the Gray Line in keeping with the color coding of the CTA rapid transit services. According to the proposal, in the middle of the day the South Chicago trains would run every ten to 20 minutes as rapid transit trains do rather than the hourly service now provided by Metra Electric. An advantage would be the use of transfers to and from buses and CTA rapid transit lines for the proposed Gray Line service. The Chicago Area Transportation Study will review the Gray Line plan along with many others. Thanks to Steve Scalzo for the news.
