I'd like to nominate Metra Electric's South Chicago branch as the most boring line to ride on Metra's system. It does have a lot of history true, and while the area on 71st St. between Stony Island and South Shore is slowly changing for the better, the ride south of 79th St. tends to get a bit more depressing as it passes through a blighted portion of Chicago's SE side. To be honest, the entire branch doesn't really feel like a commuter line... it strikes me as more like light rail on steroids.
Yes, I'd agree. Or maybe a pseudo-interurban?
I personally vote for the UP West line as being the most boring,
at least
from Madison to Wheaton. Granted there *is* a rail yard....it's
just not
enough for me.
My vote goes to the BNSF line. Between Union Station and LaVergne, there are only railyards to look at. Nothing special about the rest of the line either, which is why I love the express train, because you can zip through this boredom of a route.
