DYING FOR LOVE
Help links are provided at the bottom of this page
Some where out there right now... there is a person who is laying on their bed crying their heart out, because they feel like no one cares about them any more.
Some where out there right now... there is a person with a broken spirit... who hasn't eaten all day, and doesn't care if they ever eat again.
Some where out there right now.... there is a teenager who is so sad, so depressed, that they are thinking out in their head exactly how and when they are going to end their life.
Some where out there right now... there is a an individual with a gun or pills in their hand... and tears in their eyes. If you have ever been there... you know what the pain of hopelessness feels like.... you know what it feels like to rather die than live one more day in a world that doesn't love you. If you have never felt this way... then you can only imagine what it must feel like to want to give up the rest of your sunrises and sunsets... just to make the pain go away.
I know this pain... but I only know it through memories now. I no longer feel this pain for myself... but I still feel that sorrow for the thousands of people who are still trapped in their darkness.... some where out there right now.
But, maybe you think it's not that big of a deal... or that common of a problem? Not true, I did my homework. Everyday in just America alone, 86 people die from suicide. That's more than 31 thousand people each year, 1 person every 17 minutes who ends their life, according to our national government statistics. Don't believe me? Look it up for yourself.

And if that is not bad enough.... there are 1,500 more sad and desperate people here in the U.S.A. who attempt suicide each and every day... but live through it. That is more than 1 person every second of every day trying to end their life, just in the USA alone. And for everyone who actually tries suicide, there are hundreds and thousands more who are suffering just as bad... but don't actually try to end their life. Now... think about that world wide... and see just how much suffering is going on.
Among gay teens... the percentages are even higher. It is estimated that 1 in 10 people are born gay... but over half of all teen male suicides are due to gay related issues. And do you think suicide isn't that big of a problem for kids? Think again. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, suicide is the 5th leading cause of death among 5 to 14 year-olds, and the 3rd leading cause of death for those ages 15 to 24, surpassed only by car accidents and homicide. And if you break the ages down further, Suicide becomes the 2nd leading cause of death for teens between the ages of 15 to 19 year olds. Just think about that. Just think about how many troubled teens there are out there, hurting, suffering, wishing to die because their life seems so hopeless. How many great, creative, intelligent people have we lost throughout time, simply due to depression and suicide?
Did you know that many of our great leaders and heroes in history were so depressed at one time, that they too thought about or attempted suicide? Did you know, for instance, that Mahatma Gandhi once attempted suicide when he was a teenager? Think of the millions of people who are alive today simply because Gandhi failed his suicide attempt... and that's just one man.
There are a lot of reasons that people have to die... but someone dying because they feel unloved, or can't get help for their depression, when there are so many people out there in this world who could help, is the biggest shame I can think of. Why are we so busy, so into our own problems and pleasures in life, that there are lonely, neglected people all around us who's hurts are so great they simply want to die to end it all? Is it too much to ask to simply reach out with compassion, and let someone who has given up hope to know that we care... that they, and their pain really do matter?
Here is an email I received from someone who happened to read one of my letter essays.. and wrote to encourage me with my efforts to help. Just read.......

"I'm glad you are proud of who and what you are, don't ever change. A friend of mine that is also gay committed suicide just about two weeks ago, because a friend of his that is gay did the same thing. His friends parents wouldn't let him go to the funeral, and my friends mom just said "That's what you get for being gay." I wish I could've been there for him, I tried but he was just so hurt by them..... Stay proud..............Later"

Some where out there right now... there are people who are so sad they want to die.
Some where out there right now... there are individuals who wish they could do or say something to help those suffering people to feel loved and cared about.
Some where out there right now... there are people who are going about their busy lives, shopping, working, playing, living... who just don't realize the pain and grief going on all around them.
Which one are YOU?
Please make a possitive difference in this world, starting today. Find some sad and lonely person that you can help by showing your love. Find those hurting around you... maybe at work, or at school, or maybe around where you live... who is to the point of giving up, and help them find hope again. You will feel better for it... and you just may be saving a life. I would do it for you. Please do it for someone who needs it before it's too late.
If you feel like you are too sad and in too much pain to go on, PLEASE tell someone you trust, and find ways to stop the pain, instead of your life. If you know of someone who has told you they want or plan to end their life, PLEASE don't ignore it or push it off as just some crazy thoughts, or idle threats for attention. Maybe it is, but if it's not, that person's life and chance for happiness may depend on you being strong enough to find them help. All we need some times is for someone to care, and to get involved enough to make their love be felt. Some times, all we need is a little love by someone to help us find the way. Thank you!!
