mark martin with the ice team in phoenix, arizona

The ICE Team is a group of soul winners gathered by invitation from leadership of the personal evangelism department of the north american mission board.

Over the years, literally tens of thousands of souls have been won individually to Christ by these men.

We go to the inner cities of the large cities of our nation, where others often don't want to go, to people who are often forgotten in poverty and loneliness and despair. Drugs and violence are a way of life in these areas.

The method is presentation of the Gospel to particular people...to the individual.

The message is the old, old story of Jesus and His Love that has been changing lives for two thousand years.

Team members come from all over the United States to meet at designated cities.

As a result, 250 came to know Christ as their Lord and Saviour in the Mesa area this year.

After the ICE effort, certain of us from the team stayed on in the Phoenix area to help with the annual Crossover, in which those gathering for the Southern Baptist Convention seek to win the lost of the participating city to The Lord.
This year, the total saved during these two events was 989.

HALLELUJAH!

Jesus said, "If I be lifted up, I will draw all men to Me!"

"...And How Shall They Hear Without A Preacher?"

The local folks kept commenting that they wre having a cool spell, but for this old boy from Tennessee it was HOT as the three of us started walking up Broadway on our first day.

After about an hour of witnessing to anyone whose path we crossed, we found ourselves at a little store where Mexican migrant workers were gathering.

Gale and Pat were already engaged in conversation with two different small groups of men as I approached. They were using bilingual Gospel tracts to try to communicate Christ, since none of us spoke Spanish.
One of the men in Gale's group was bilingual...in fact, he was the only person of all of us there who spoke both English and Spanish.
His name is Joe, and his face shone with joy after he turned from his sin and gave his life to Jesus Christ! :) :) :)

Well, of course, we were all celebrating this new brother coming to The Lord, but as I turned and looked toward the store again, I noticed that the low wall beside it was filled with men sitting in the shade. My heart hurt and my frustration grew as I longed to preach to all of these men, but realized we could not speak to or understand one another.

None of them spoke English, and none of us spoke Spanish.

EXCEPT JOE, the man who had given his heart to Jesus only a couple of minutes before.

Gale brought Joe over to me, and I enlisted him as my interpreter. Then, he and I preached to the 15-20 men who were standing or sitting there.
When we invited them to come to Christ TEN of them responded!

So it was, that there, amidst the overpowering heat and language barrier The Holy Spirit drew Joe to Jesus...and just a few minutes later, Joe, the new believer in Christ Jesus, was used of God to turn and preach
salvation to his friends in their own language.

And God demonstrated his power.
