CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE DREAM KIND

UFO DREAM IMAGES

Trains and railroads are recurring images in UFO-related dreams. This particular site has meaning to an encounter explorer. Many UFO dreams contain images of craft coming from under the water. There have been numerous UFO reports of craft coming out or into the water.

DREAM ASPECTS OF ENCOUNTERS

Dreams are a vitally important aspect in understanding close encounters, perhaps a major key in unlocking the "secrets" of the unknown.

This sleep stage of consciousness has been the subject of much research. Through our experiences we have come to understand that dreams often not only reflect extraordinary experiences, as with memory storage or giving us shadow images of an actual possible experience during sleep, but may serve as another level of information transfer, provide others ways of knowing.

CONTACT VIA RADIO TELESCOPES?
OR THROUGH THE SLEEPING MIND?

Sleep may also be the means through which nonhuman consciousness, with its apparent deeper awareness, can enter our known material reality with greater ease, which may explain, in part, why many personal encounters happen at prime sleep cycles.

Even famed Carl Sagan thought of that, not in relationship to UFOs but in his 1985 science fiction novel, "CONTACT," in chapter 20 (Grand Central Station) after astronomer Ellie Arroway's journey through the galaxy where she met an alien intelligence that appeared to her as her dead father, images taken from her mind as she slept:

"'Dreams,' she said. 'Last night, when we were all dreaming, you were inside our heads, right? You drained everything we know.'"

The ETI, appearing as her father, replies that they only made "copies," after Dr. Arroway feels "an invasion of privacy," a common characteristic of stealth close encounters, commonly called "abductions."

Saying that television is not a good determinant of human behaviour, the ETI explains the importance of dreams. "There are cultures all over the Galaxy that trade dreams," her "father"
the ETI says.

(As this reference to Carl Sagan is being written, a commercial plays on classical radio station WQXR in New York City about Montefiore Hospital's "Carl Sagan Discovery Center." It is a synchronisity, a meaningful coincidence, a major aspect of close encounters, reported elsewhere on our website. SPACE is trying to meet with people at Maimonides Hospital who did research over 25 years ago on Sleep and Dreams.---note by Harold Egeln, Nov. 15, 2000.)

As demonstrated by Harold Egeln's 1995 dream related in his book review of Dr. Mack's "Passport to the Cosmos," there were elements related to symbols, archetypes and of the UFO experience, and, of course, what appeared to be a "passport" coming from where Mack was speaking, four years before his second abduction book was published.

Dreams related to encounters also contain recurring images and have consistent patterns discovered among many experiencers. Photos of sites relating to such dreams are published on this page, relating to trains and underwater objects. We will report on our ongoing dream research and experiences within this section, citing the following examples and studies, submitted for your consideration.....

"The Cattle Prod & The Magic Wand"

In August 1992 Harold Egeln received two separate phone calls from two people, who did not know one another, who related their previous night's dreams.

Late in the morning a man called from New Jersey saying that he had a powerful dream in which he found himself standing shirtless as a "grey" standing in front of "a mirror" placed "a cattle prod" on his left shoulder blade. Behind him he noticed a woman with long dark hair was watching him. When the man awoke he felt a sharp pain on his left shoulder blade, ran to a bathroom mirror and saw a "V" shaped scar, reddish and very sore, on his left shoulder blade.

Later in the afternoon a woman called from Brooklyn, telling of a powerful dream she felt compleled to tell Harold. In the dream she saw a shirtless man, back to her, and "an alien" by a "window" placing "a magic wand" on the man's left should blade, where a mark in the shape of a number "7" appeared. The woman who called had long dark hair.

Here we have two people who do not know one another relating basically the same dream. The man had a sore mark on him that he did not have the day before. The 7 and V images conveyed were basically the same shape. One saw "a mirror" and the other, "a window." The man described the "grey's" rod as a "cattle prod" while the woman called it "a magic wand," bringing in traumatic and transformative words to describe the rod. Also, a mirror reflects an image while a window usually lets images pass through.

"Trumpets & A Shared Encounter"

On January 12, 1993, Joseph Wiek and Harold Egeln were having dinner in the Sheridan Square Coffee Shop in Greenwich Village, NYC. After what seemed two hours, Joseph, who out of habit looks at his watch a lot, noted that there was a sudden swift passage of time, about 45 minutes. Harold, not a watch watcher, looked at his watch, as they realized that something did not seem right.

Days later Harold began to get flashbacks that something may of happened in that restaurant. Eventually they chose to explore that possiblilty through hypnosis, separately, Joseph with a psychologist in Long Island and Harold with one in Manhattan. After that they would meet to discuss the results without talking about them on the phone before hand.

The night before their meeting, a SPACE supporter called up Harold, not about anything related to Harold and Joseph's experience. "Harold, I had a strange dream last night. Seemed like it took place in the wods. There was a house and a woman outside the house. A flying saucer came over the scene. What was strange about the saucer, it was rimmed with seven trumpets." Harold said that he never heard of a trumpet image related to UFOs before, as he flipped out his notes down about the dream in his pocket notebook, as is his habit.

Next evening, Joseph and Harold met for dinner (but not at that same coffee shop) and related the results of their relaxation sessions with the two separate therapists. Both shared similar images, Harold with more detail of them, so accounts cocurred. But when they related the beginnings of their accounts, they differed on how the encounter began. While both agreed that everything became frozen in time, Harold saw the three "aliens" enter the restaurant's front windows in a blast of light.

Joseph saw the three aliens enter, but instead of a light blast, he saw one carrying something. "Harold, this will sound silly, but he was carrying a TRUMPET." Shocked, Harold whipped out his notebook with the "trumpet" UFO dream relayed to him the night before, which he had not mentioned to Joseph.

Whether Joseph and Harold experienced a "joint
abduction" or not is overshadowed by the trumpet dream, which raises profound questions on the nature of some dreams and how nonhuman consciousness can connect three people, the two experiencers and the one supporter with her dream.

If the dream was created for the supporter to help validate Joseph and Harold's experience, that carries staggering implications, for the field of dream research and for the nature of the nonhuman's operations and abilities to intervene in a person's consciousness through dreams.

A Post Script: After a photo session for a magazine on UFO experiencers at Sheridan Square in January 1998, we had dinner at the coffee shop where Joseph and Harold had their 1993 experience. Only now it was under new ownership and upgraded, with a new name: "Mythology."

In 2000 "Mythology" became a myth, as it closed down. It was replaced by a STAR-Bucks.

************

The TRUMPET, in a UFO dream and a regression.

How does a dream about a UFO rimmed with seven trumpets, dreamed by a "non-experiencer," connect with a hypnotic regression of a possible "abduction" or "missing time" episode of an "experiencer," who came up with an image of a trumpet (held by an "alien") also, as we just read? What is the true nature of dreams, and, could non-human beings communicate with us in that altered state of consciousness across time and space, body and mind?

Seven years after the incident in the Sheridan Square Coffee Shop, Egeln was back in that neighborhood. After coming out of a subway station, he looked at the coffee shop, now the upscale "Mythology" restaurant. Looking down a sidestreet for a moment towards Bleecker Street, he saw a red truck pass with a TRUMPET symbol on it, the truck of a firm called S.I.R.

Startled by the synchronicity, an incredible meaningful coincidence as defined by Dr. Carl Jung, he checked his watch. It was "1:47." The number "47" has occured a remarkable number of times between him and Joseph Wiek, in connection with synchronistic events and Hudson Valley sightings. (See the Close Encounters of the Synchronistic Kind page later on this site about that topic.)

Looking back at the restaurant, he saw a truck stop for a red light on Seventh Avenue. The large truck was a "LUNA Transportation" truck, implying the meaning of SPACE travel.

The Greenwich Village block on which the Sheridan Square Coffee Shop incident happened in January 1993 apparently also has synchronistic significance, being rougly triangular, and with three triangular traffic islands and parks nearby. An additional "sync" for Wiek may be New York City's only "volcano," Mount Koch, created by an artist over a heat vent in 1980 when Ed Koch was mayor...The implied significance of that is that Wiek grew up in Seattle, home of the SPACE Neddle, in the shadow of the massive Mount Rainer, an inactive volcano which was the site of Kenneth Arnold's "flying saucer" sighting in 1947.

There seems to deliberateness involved in creating all this interlocking maze, as if an incredible deep intelligence and consciousness is at work and play in these extraordinary experiences. The close encounter mystery is truly a riddle wrapped in an enigma, with layers of intrigue, which may be a communication ("hey, figure it out, you guys") and a venue for contact. But we can never be completely sure...a state of uncertainity which is an recurring pattern in the close encounter experience.

MORE NOTES FROM TRUMPETS

February 10, 2000....Researcher Eugenia Macer-Story, after looking at our website for the first time, wrote Egeln in an email: "I have not had time to finish it all but stopped reading at the Sheridan Square Coffee Shop episode so I could communicate the following:

My article 'The Jefferson Market Triangle,' published in Borderlands magazine in I think 1993, describes the exact area of your time loss experience as being 'time/space strange.' A photo I took there, which I described as a FLYING HORN, is published with the article." (Actually the Jefferson Market Triangle is a three blocks north of Sheridan Square.)
*******
Joseph Wiek's reaction (Feb.12): "It is incredible! I just don't know what to make of it. It's incredible how all these things through space and time weave together to create an experence like this. I just don't know what to do with it.

Is it a question, a reminder, a validation, a melody to be enjoyed, a statement, a fluke, a coincidence, a naturally occuring event unorchestrated by anyone other than us just living our lives in tandem with the truth?????

I just don't know, but it is definately something!!!"
*******
The person who had the dream of the flying saucer rimmed by trumpets (Feb. 12): "WOW!...I am a little speechless....How truly extraordinary about that area being highly strange..."
*******
Harold Egeln, in his immediate reply to Macer-Story: "Not since I was a child looking forward to Christmas have I really had 'that Christmas feeling,' bringing magical wonder....Until when I read your e-mail."

THE SOUNDS OF MORE TRUMPETS....
(emntered Nov. 15, 2000)

Awhile ago Whitley Strieber reminded us of his own "trumpet experience," reported in his 1995 book, "Breakthrough: The Next Step."

In Chapter Two, "Public Proof," he tells of going out into the dark woods near his old cabin in the woods, drawn outside, on January 7, 1988:

"I thought I heard a sound, maybe a TRUMPET." (our emphasis) That sound made him awake suddenly and drew him outside.

Within the past few months, someone, after reading of the trumpets on our site, told of her experience of being drawn outside, and seeing a triangular craft over her house.

When the craft vanished, she heard what sounded like "a trumpet," with the clearist sound, like a summons from the divine. More recently she heard what sounded like a trumpet sound in the sky.

Another visitor to our site reminded us of the "Seven Trumpets" of the Bible's "Revelations," relating the seven trumpets rimming the dream flying saucer, as reported to us in 1993. This is open to interpertation, as in most, if not all close encounter and UFO reports and experiences.

DEC. 14, 1992: SHARED DREAMS---Flowers

On the night of December 14, 1992 six people in the S.P.A.C.E. and Budd Hopkins support groups had very similar memorable dreams, reported a few days later to SPACE, of being in a large auditorium or classroom. Each scenario featured flowers, either singular or in bunches. Some of the reporters told of recognizing people they knew in their dreams, including those who had their own flower & auditorium dreams separately that night.

The shared dream phenomenon, usually involving two dreamers, has been observed by us and other researchers. here we had six reported dreams with the same basic elements.

Apart from the flower dream flap, others reported strong floral scents in their bedrooms, unable to locate their source, while others reported an unusually strong draw to flowers.

Such powerful whiffs of flowers have been reported at our proactive encounter sites, such as on a road in Putnam County, New York. even in the middle of Winter, as experienced only weeks after the flower dreams.

THE HUMMINGBIRD DREAM---July 8, 2000---by Harold Egeln

This dream developed from a series of regular dreams in the early morning hours, becoming vivid when I entered a dark, round room. Flashes of light came from the windows to my left, but when I tried to move there, I could not. Lightning? No, maybe the early mornng sunrise, with hills intervening, causing the sunlight to be intermittenly blocked, I reasoned.

At this point the dream was very vivid. I noticed a circular structure in the middle of the room, like a column several feet thick reaching to the ceiling. Suddenly and brieflyI saw a goat by the door across the room, puzzled by it appearance.

I then noticed a man sitting on a large couch to by near right. Whose that? Then I saw it was Whitley Strieber, looking out towards the backyard.

Then, suddenly, somethings buzzed around my head and in front of Strieber. I noticed that they were a swarm of hummingbirds!

At this point of observation I became lucid in the dream, enthralled by he swarm of small birds. I was amazed that they were hoisting tiny mobiles, of the Alexander Calder kind, reflecting the sputtering light from outside.

"What are these birds here, Whitley?" I asked. He looked at them and answered matter-of-factly, "They're the visitors." At this point, aware of them, I awoke.

The next day I received an e-mail from Lorie B., telling me of her dream of a Jack O'Latern with a cape and a hood, and how she realized it was a visitor, whereupon the Jack O'Latern mask was removed, reveiling a blonde alien man. Across the room stood a goat.

When I alerted the SPACE Mission Team about this dream, a member, startled by the dreams, alerted me to the magazine "Parabola" about mythology, the current issue about "Riddles and Mysteries."

In the magazine was an article about the Yacqui Indians of the Southwest USA and their skills in lucid dreaming. To enter a lucid dream state to explore the dream realms, they imaged HUMMINGBIRDS.

A day later, July 10, I just happened to look in on Streber's website. "Whitley's World." There was a new journal entry that day by Anne Strieber about the Strieber's "War With the Squirrels."

Because they hada lot of birds passing through their backyard, they decided to build a BIRD FEEDER. Which the squirrels took over, to their constirnation, not allowing their feeder to be used by their BIRDS.

So, we have a dream image of hummingbirds, which made me lucid and Strieber looking at the birds. the hummingbirds relate to the centuries-old dream image of hummingbirds in the Yacqi culture, of which I new nothing about.

And the Striebers' preoccupation with their bird feeder in their backyard is something I learned about two days after my dream. And there was the goat in both Lorie B's and my dreams, along with references to the visitors.

I e-mailed the Striebers about this, but never heard back from them.

These dreams occured during the Breakthrough episodes, reported on Page 8 of this website. Tapping into universal images stored in a general, overall field of consciousness. Planted dreams by the Visitors to connect us?

TRAINS, PLANES...and UFOs

One pattern in UFO-related dreams reported by encounter explorers is recurrent images of trains. While such images appear in dreams of non-experiencers, naturally, when they are reported in context of UFO-related dreams, they seem to have a haunting significance for the reporter of the dreams.

The photo of a train station at the beginning of this section is a real place near the shores of the Hudson River, where an encounter explorer has been drawn both in his life and in his dreams.

In those dreams there have been trains and planes. The planes head to the riverbank over the train tracks, crashing into the river. These dreams keep recurring over the years with slight variations. The riverbank shoreline, shown in a photo at the end of this section, is a persistent draw for the encounter explorer. The area of train tracks by the water persists to haunt the explorer's curiorsity.

Shorefronts occur frequently as both a draw for an experiencer and through relaxation techniques employed by abduction researchers. In Budd Hopkins' book, "Witnessed: The True Story of the Brooklyn Bridge UFO Abductions," in a hypnosis session Linda tells of being on a beach with others apparently involved in the incident.

Harold Egeln, in his first story written as an English class assignment at age 12, wrote about a mysterious incident on a beach with globes of light in the sky, which fascinated his teacher and haunted him enough that he felt compeled to write the story.

Even in the movie "Contact" starring Jodie Foster based on Carl Sagan's book, her character, SETI astronomer Ellie Arroway, is taken to a re-creation of a beach, which happens to be Pensacola Beach in northern Florida, sight of the Gulf Breeze sightings and the founder of SPACE South's Pensacola Beach Lady incident.

Perhaps the reported shore images have to do with the interface of Earth as an image on the cosmic shores of space and the universe. It may be the way the interface is translated in experiencers' consciousness. The whole connection with water and UFOs, as explored by Ivan T. Sanderson in his book "Invisible Residents" from 1970, is intriquing.

And the haunting images of trains in experiencers' dreams is too numerous to just be a happenstance occurance.

DREAM IMAGES: FIRETRUCKS AND FIREFIGHTERS

Some people having close encounters have related dreams of firefighters, dressed in white or red, and of firetrucks, which seem to be connected with the visitation phenomenon.

A man, when he was a child, recalls vivid, powerful and disturbing dreams of firefighters dressed in white coming into his bedroom, not related to any direct experience of or fear of fires.

The man, as an adult, has haunting, beckoning dreams of firefighters and firetrucks, such as an old Arens Fox, near the shoreline of his Hudson Valley river village. The locations in his dreams appear to be near where he may of had stealth encounters.

Drawn to a shed which caught fire years ago in his village, with a SPACE Away Mission skywatch team, mysterious noctural lights are tracked there in the woods, seemingly interacting with the team members.

Another person has a powerful dream of a huge firetruck, serving also as a two level bus, as he flees a place where aliens seem to be. Two days later he has an apparent visitation episode with two others.

There are also dreams of police officers, seemingly patroling dreams to act as authority figures to hide deeper aspects of the dreams.

A NON-DREAM EVENT

In a physical restaurant Harold Egeln is talking with Joseph Wiek about synchronicties, such as the number 147 they seem to share over and over again meaningful and timely context.

Then Egeln mentions the recurring images of firetrucks a SPACE encounter explorer has. At that very precise moment fire sirens blare. Egeln looks outside the window onto Broadway. A whizzing firetruck roars by.

It bears the engine number 147.

DREAMS OF WINNEBAGOES & VANS

When Joseph Wiek was a child of about five, living in Seattle, he either dreamt or woke up and saw what looked "like a Winnebago" mobile home flying through the nighttime sky.

When Harold Egeln met "EG," an experiencer whom Dr. Jean Mundy referred him to in January 1989 (pre-SPACE), the person was startled to see him. "I saw you in my dream last night," she said.

Sitting down in her coach piano room, she closed her eyes, relating her vivid dream in detail. "You were dressed in blue, like the blue coat you wore coming in here. You were standing outside a Volkswagon Van. Next to you was a boy, about 15 or 16, your son, wearing the same blue outfit. Other children were roaming all around and on the van."

Egeln does not have a son (as far as he knows). "EG" felt the boy was his "hybrid child." The age of the boy would be consistent with an experience Egeln had just over 15 years before, during an apparent visitation in Landing, New Jersey, and a false pregnancy that developed soon after with a woman present that night when "a boy ghost" appeared to enter the bedroom.

Other such instances of Winnebagoes and vans, flying or on the ground, have been reported in dreams, forming another pattern of repeating, consistent images.

Outside of dreams, utility vans, with strange utility workers, have been reported, as depicted in the 1992 "Intruders" CBS-TV movie, based on Budd Hopkin's book of 1987 about the Kathie Davis case.

DREAMS: ENCOUNTERS WITH NONHUMAN INTELLIGENCE

In a remarkable book by Dana Redfield, "SUMMONED: Encounters With Alien Intelligence" (Hampton Rock Publishing, Charlottesville, VA, 1999), the author has an amazing 83-page appendix called "DREAMS AND PHENOMENA."

There she documents over 100 dreams, out of 3,000 recorded, covering the time between June 11, 1985 and December 14, 1995 that may be what she calls "alien influenced."

Under "Nocturnal Event Details, Dreams, And Phenomena," she also has a table breaking down the many aspects of these events, such as:

* spacecraft/UFOs
* water
* doctors.nurses
* flying/Out-of-Body-Experiences
* hybrids/smart babies/children
* guards/police
* medical exams, hospitals/clincs
* tunnels/caves
* military/government
* auditoriums/classrooms
* angels/entities
* messages/lessons
* other vehicles/travel
* dogs/cats/other animals

* and more items labeled "suspicious," with most dreams and events reflecting consistent and persistent patterns in the Dream research of S.P.A.C.E., where numerous dreams have been noted.

"THE DREAM LIBRARY"
By Harold Egeln, Nov. 15, 2000

I have a very active dream life while asleep, engaging a wide variety of dream experiences, a few related to encounter images but most not. Many of the dreams are vivid, larger-than-life, and lucid dreams are numerous.

I have learned that dreams seemed to be contained in a "Library of Dream Memories," alawys accessible and available in an nstant Suddenly, out of nowhere, a dream from long, long ago, many times from childhood, not thought about in years or seemingly forgotten, emerges into full recall, with appropriate emotions.

Often upon the dream's recall, other dreams are recalled instantly, all at the same time. It is really spooky when this happens, givng me the willies. I re-live the dream in all its detail, often not having given it thought since I had the original dream.

Sometimes in lucid dreams, the physical senses of touch seem to be achieved, always a very brief delight.

Sometimes indescrible colors, unlike any in our experience, emerge in the dreams, entralling in their glory. They seem to illuminsient and cast no light on their surroundings, as if the color is self-contained rather than a reflection of some unknown prism or radiation beyond or color range. Perhaps these are the "colors" of radio and microwaves or other waves in the spectrum which are invisible to human vision... except through dreams!!

Close Encounters of the Dream Kind can, perchance, help science and noetic studies of non-ordinary states of consciousness with its research into the nature of dreams and sleep, SPACE contends.

"There are cultures all over the Galaxy that trade dreams," said the ET Intelligence to astronomer Dr. Arroway in Carl Sagan's book "CONTACT," on the shores of Pensacola Beach, recreated 30,000 light-years away from Earth.

The Dream Worlds await deeper exploration, as poet William Blake would say to turn the telescope within, all on the shores of the Mind....

"THE UFO AND THE SUBTLE BODY: CONTEMPORARY HISTORY AND FUTURE DEVELOPMENT IN NINE UFO DREAMS"

Dr. Remo Roth, a Swiss psychologist in Zurich, has done extensive research on UFO related dreams with people he has been working with. In fact, over two decades ago his interest in close encounters was sparked by his own UFO dream. In an essay written and published on his website in November 2002, Dr. Roth tells of the UFO dreams of a woman, now 35, over the last 15 years, and their significance.

RECOMMENDED DREAM LINKS

RAMP To UFO WATER DREAMS

Recurring images of ramps at the water's edge
appear in UFO dreams in which Unidentified
Submergible Objects, (a term from Timothy Good's book, "Alien Base") appear.

The above scene, from a video clip, is an actual shoreline on a river village to which an encounter explorer feels drawn to, as if experiences happen there or nearby.

He has recurrent dreams of planes crashing into the water at this shoreline, of objects going into or emerging from the river water by this very shoreline which we see here.

When Linda Cortile was hypnotized by Budd Hopkins for the "Brooklyn Bridge Incident" of November 1989, she recalled images of being on an ocean shoreline, along with the other figures apparently involved in this stealth encounter.

In the movie "Contact" based on Carl Sagan's book, the main character, Ellie Arroway (played by Jodie Foster) is taking to a recreation of Pensacola Beach (site a major UFO flap, although not mentioned in the movie) after a mind-bending trip through space. In Sagan's TV series "Cosmos," a shoreline image is used.

Canadian SETI League coordinator Allen Tough, a psychology professor emeritus at the University of Toronto, on his "Invitation to ETI" website, put together by scientists, writers and psychologists, among others, has a painting of a shoreline featured.

Harold Egeln's first short story, written at age 12, concerned a mystery light by a shore, never calling it a UFO, gaining recognition by his 7th grade English teacher.

Maybe these shoreline images are a species memory of land animals emerging from Earth's water, or a representation of humans standing at the cosmic shorelines of space, ready for the next giant leap in evolution.

Or relate to underwater UFOS, as the website below may give us some insights:
