Words and music by Eve Adam, a.k.a. Harmonic Eve, formerly known as Phyllis Eve Weiler
My name when I wrote this song was Phyllis Eve Weiler. I dropped the "Phyllis" from my name when I married Mr. Adam. The notes you see here were chosen by me when I was a young stay-at-home mother composing at my piano. First I settled on the sounds I wanted and made a rough draft of the song. Then I painstakingly wrote on pre-lined music paper each note by hand, using a special pen and India Ink. The pages have now yellowed through time. Many years have passed between the time I placed each note and today when I scanned each image. Children grow up; grandchildren grow up. The music just sits there in a drawer. It is time to share. Even the methods available for sharing have changed since it was first my hope that many people would sing my songs. Now I have scanned the original pages, using my scanner attached to my computer. I have sent these images from my computer by e-mail to myself at my MSN TV address. I am writing this using my television set instead of a monitor. The actual computer recording the keystrokes I type on my wireless keyboard is many miles away, maintained by my ISP. I am making this web site by using MSN TV's Page Builder site creation tool. This is the same way I have already made many more pages containing poems, lyrics, photos, graphics, word pictures of my thoughts and memories, and yes, even other sheet music compositions I wrote long ago. In 1961 I applied for and received a Library of Congress copyright on this song. It was then classified as "Unpublished." Now I am publishing it on the Internet and inviting you to make copies. I hope that you will enjoy singing it or at least playing it on the piano. The piano part is not as complete as the piano part in my "Afterglow: A Piano Suite With Optional Lyrics." This means some of the melody notes in this song will be missing without a person's voice, but you may still find the harmonies interesting even with only the piano part. Caution: Be careful to apply the key signature accurately, or you could end up with a totally different sound than it was meant to have. Also, although two beats per measure are indicated, counting six beats per measure when you are first learning the song might make it easier to concentrate on getting the correct notes, in both pitch and relative duration. |
The original inspiration for this song was something my grandmother Bebe told me about her childhood. To read "Trivia Question and Answer" on the first page of my "Harmony of Life" web site, click on the link below. The link will take you to the page where I describe Bebe's childhood memory. The clickable table of contents on that same page can also connect you to the lyrics of this song in case you want to print them separately from the sheet music. Suggestion: Click on the link below, scroll down to read "Trivia Question and Answer" (toward the bottom of the page) then scroll back up part way to find the "Crying for the Moon Man" link. It is the first song listed in the "Lyrics by Eve" section of the Clickable Table of Contents, within the "Harmony of Life" web site. |
