by Eve Adam, a.k.a. Harmonic Eve The phone could ring while I was sleeping, Yet I left the ringer on. All through the day, I tried your number, But your line was always busy. You called at last and I was cordial. I asked you what was wrong. You said the phone was not behaving. You blamed it on equipment. You said you'd be out, and arrive home late. I asked you to call, once home. So attentive you were before today That I wondered at the change. Too many questions, too many demands, You said were coming from me. What have I asked but to know you are safe? What do I want but your friendship? Yes, questions to make polite conversation, Demands that you let me be me. You want no more questions; I have no demands. You want to be free, then be free! by Eve Adam, a.k.a. Harmonic Eve, December 9, 2007 |
