Love to hear from any of my old shipmates. Anybody recall Norm Maclintoch ATC, VC-6 Pax River? Anybody recall the stag party North American threw for the squadron when they finished modifying the AJ's?

Charlie, great site. Of course I really didn't know what I was looking over. I knew the A-3 was a heavy bomber before we got it at VQ. I do have some pictures of the Whale 1968 parked, preparing to launch, and launching from a carrier in the Med 1967. Also pictures of CDR Hatch, CDR Zwick and CDR Galotta when they commanded VQ-2, plus a whole (s----) load of negatives taken in and around VQ-2 about 1966-1968. Got any ideas who I should send these? Presently they are in the history pages of Naval Security Group Display here in Pensacola. Good Luck, nice to be in touch again, Charlie.

Chuck- A great job!! A little update on your VC-7 page. I had orders to VC-6 but arrived at Moffett Field the day VC-7 was commissioned. That makes me a proud VC-7 Plankowner. Your VC-7 page doesn't denote the plankowner status of any that are listed. [Also, Chuck Huber (charles379@webtv.net) has the VC-7 Association roster with several names].
ADM H.S. "Shack" Moore was our Personnel Officer when VC-7 was commissioned, having been in VC-6. He was a LCDR. at the time. I later worked for him at PMR Pt. Mugu as an Electronic Engineer when he was COMPMR as a RADM.
Our skipper at Moffett Field was Capt. Joe Japp. He shipped me over for a 6 year hitch. The last time I talked to him while he was visiting Mugu from D.C., he was a VADM. He isn't mentioned on the VC-7 history Page. I heard from ADM Moore that VADM Japp died 3 or 4 years ago. When we left Moffett, we didn't go to Pax River, we went to Breezy Point, NAS Norfolk, Va. When they formed Fasron 51, I went into that facility, making me a plankowner. I don't know what happened to that outfit, as I left there for Naval Air Missile Test Center, Pt. Mugu, Ca.on Feb. 5, 1952, before it became PMR. I left Pt. Mugu in July 54 and proceeded to ComUnit 38, VW-3, Det A. NAS Sangley Point, PI, via NAVSECSTA. Wash. D.C.
On June 1, 1955, VW-3 was redesignated VQ-1, making it the first designated "countermeasures" Squadron in the U,S.Navy. I am a proud Plankowner of that outfit, also. Approximately one year after our commissioning, my A/C,a Martin Mercator, P4-M, side #62, was shot down by 2 M1G-15's and one M1G-17 off the china coast. This is a fairly familiar area to me, as I was in Tsing-Tao, China in 48/49 with VP-41, flying Martin PBM's when Chang got run out of there. I'd better stop here. Keep up the good work, Chuck. Carl Thorpe

Nice work Chuck, Both VC-5 and VJ-62 were home based at NAS Jax for a short while between Norfolk and Sanford due to a Reserve Air Wing at Sanford that was scheduled to deploy to Korea but couldn't seem to get going very fast.

I joined the squadron at Moffitt Field in late 48 or early 49. I had just turned 17. Served in VC-5 for 3 years, I went to North Africa with the 1st deployment. My skipper for the full hitch was Capt. Hayward. Has there been an autobiography on him? He was tops.
