Who is Javier Bardem...
Javier Ãngel Encinas Bardem was born on March 1, 1969 in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria,Spain (Canary Islands).Javier Bardem comes from a family of actors and filmakers and is a two time Academy Award nominee and the first Spanish actor to ever win The Academy Award. His breakout role in American cinema came in 2000 with his stunning Oscar nominated portrayl of Cuban poet, Reinaldo Arenas, in the bio-pic, Before Night Falls,directed by Julian Schnabel.
Javier Bardem has acted in more than 2 dozen films in his native country which include,1992's Jamón Jamón,Live Flesh (Carne Tremula) directed by Pedro Almodóvar,Boca Boca,The Detective and Death,Second Skin and Mondays in the Sun.
His memorable and remarkable performance as Ramon Sampedro in the masterpiece, Mar Adentro (The Sea Inside), earned him and the film countless awards including
14 Goya awards,The European Film Award and The Academy Award for Best Foreign film of 2004.
In 2007,his intense and disturbing performance as Anton Chigurh (left) in No Country for Old Men has earned him well deserved recognition and a second Oscar nomination for best supporting actor.Recently he won the Golden Globe Award,Srcreen Actors Guild Award, BAFTA Award for best supporting actor and The Academy Award for his outstanding performance in the film.
On June 18,2008,Javier was the recipient of the National Cinematography Prize, given by members of the Institute of Cinematography and Audiovisual Art in Madrid for his dedication to the acting profession and his constant commitment to Spanish cinema. The award was presented to Javier in September 2008 at The San Sebastian Film Festival.Attending the ceremony were Javier's proud mother,actress Pilar Bardem and actor Antonio Banderas.
Javier recently co-starred with Scarlett Johansson,Penelope Cruz and Rebecca Hall in Woody Allen's award winning romantic comedy,Vicky Cristina Barcelona,now available on DVD and Blu-Ray Disc.
Javier has just completed fliming, BIUTIFUL. The Spanish-language film is written and directed by Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu,(left) the acclaimed director of Babel and 21 Grams and was filmed in Barcelona."Biutiful" is scheduled for release in 2010.
Javier will co-star next with Julia Roberts
in the screen version of
Eat,Pray,Love.
Javier will play Felipe, Julia's love interest in Bali.The film is scheduled for release in 2011.

BARDEM STRIKES GOLD!
On February 24,2008,Javier Bardem became the first Spanish actor to ever win the Academy Award!

On what he called "the greatest night of my life,"Javier became the first Spanish actor to win The Academy Award.
In his acceptance speech,Javier dedicated the award to his mother,Pilar Bardem,who proudly watched from the audience.
Here's what he said...
"Wow. Alright, this is very amazing. It's a great honor for me to have this. I want to and I have to speak fast here, man. Thank you to the Coens for being crazy enough to think that I could do that and put one of the most horrible haircuts in history over my head. Thank you for really proving my work. I want to share this with the cast, with the great Tommy Lee Jones, with the great Josh Brolin, with the great Kelly MacDonald. And I want to dedicate this to my mother, and I have to say this in Spanish, and I'm sorry, Mama esto es para ti. Esto es para tus abuelos, para tus padres, Rafael y Matilde. Esto es para los comicos de Espana que han traido la dignidad y el orgullo a nuestro oficio. Esto es para Espana. Y esto es para todos vosotros. Thank you very much!"
