"APPROACHING STORM" By the Internationally Renowned Combat Artist..R.G.Smith

This Beautiful Photo of a Genuine Artist Painting of an LST Off-Loading "Bow-To" at NSA Danang RVN in November 1969, was just recently sent to me by Captain "Bud" Boule' USN (Ret), He was Executive Officer of NSA Danang at the time the Original was Painted. If you recoginize the ship here, send me a message and I will tell you if it is in fact that ship! Here's a clue, it is one of the ship's of LanShipRonNine. Another Clue, A Former CO of the Ship, Captain G.T.Dyer USN (Ret), also has a Print in his posession. The Name of the Ship is at the bottom of this page!!

THIS PHOTO OF LANDING SHIP SQUADRON NINE WAS TAKEN ABOUT 1960 AND CLOSE UP PHOTOS OF EACH SHIP ARE PROVIDED IN THE PAGES BELOW

Well, as I promised, here is a photo of all the ships of LanShipRonNine. This is the original photo given me while I served as the Marine Combat Cargo Officer on the COMLANSHIPRON NINE Staff in 1965-1967. So, I know it is at least 38 years old and possibly older. I believe I remember it said that this was taken while the Squadron was enroute to Japan off Okinawa. Maybe Commodore Lassiter knows more. The ships are named on the separate sheet of paper that was given me with the photo at that time. While I was an Infantry Officer and at the time wanted to be with the grunts in Vietnam,I now look back and realize what a unique and interesting experience CSLR9 was to me. I spent most of my TAD coordinating loadouts from Korea to Okinawa to various places in Vietnam frm Saigon to the DMZ. I worked with Korean Marine and Army Units, U.S. Army Units, Marine Corps Units, and spent several days working with Roger Staubach at Chu Lai. He threw the football every day. Commodore Lassiter was a good boss, and we got to see the Philippines and Hong Kong as well. Great Duty! Good Luck and Let me know how this all turns out. Best Regards from a Shipmate, ss// Frank Milling, Col USMCR(RET)

A family affair; When Landing Ship Squadron Nine was transferred from San Diego to Yokosuka in the summer of 1960, all eight of it's LST's made the trip steaming in formation, arriving in their new home port on August 6th 1960
