***BACKGROUND ON SNATCHER***

Snatcher was first released on the PC-8801, then on the MSX2 computer in Japan in 1988. It had modest success on these two platforms, but more importantly, it gathered a large cult following.

A few years later, Konami of Japan decided to port Snatcher over to the only system at the time, with a cd-rom attachment, the PC-Engine. With this release, they were able to add voice to the game, due to the massive storage capacity of the cd medium. Sure enough, Snatcher on the PC-Engine became a big hit and even 3 years after its release, it still showed up on many Japanese magazines Top 20 games.

Fast forward to 1994...Konami took a chance and decided to port Snatcher over to the Sega-CD here in America. Even with the limitations of the Sega CD, they did a wonderful job with translating the game from the PC-Engine (for in depth differences between all versions, check out my other page on Version Differences) and, in many ways, even improved upon the PC-Engine version. Konami was disappointed when the game did not sell as well as had been hoped (Snatcher WAS released in small quantities though), thus, never released its follow-up, POLICENAUTS here in America, which I, as well as many others, believe was a huge mistake.

5 years later, I still play Snatcher frequently because of its engrossing storyline, wonderful voice acting (still some of the best to date), great music, and great graphics. The thing about Snatcher is that it doesn't need flashy graphics or 3D whatever to be a great game, it has SUBSTANCE, a great storyline that is so detailed you still find new things even after many times of playing it. Snatcher is one of the most sought after games on the Internet these days, and rightly so. It definitely lives up to its' name.

My aim with this page is to show you how great this game was and still is. If you can, pick up a Genesis and Sega CD (which you can get relatively cheap) and find Snatcher..it'll be worth it.
