A PAGE FROM MY BOOK: JOURNAL QUILT - 2007 JOURNAL QUILT PROJECTS

Karey Bresenhan of INTERNATIONAL QUILT FESTIVAL AND MARKET OF HOUSTON, CHICAGO AND LONG BEACH who graciously hosted the Journal Quilt Projects over the past several years decided that 2007 would be its final year. Instead of monthly "JOURNALS" members would create one final larger piece, 17" x 22".

These final quilts are schedule for exhibitions at their INTERNATIONAL QUILT FESTIVALS held in Houston, Tx. on Nov. 1-4,2007, in Rosemont,Ill. on Apr.11-13,2008 and Long Beach on July 25-27, 2008.

THE SAMURAI

17"x22" -
JOURNAL QUILT 2007

The SAMURAI is my homage to the Japanese quilters who started me on my journey into the world of quilting. As an admirer of the "Bushido"- The Way of the Samurai - that of perserverence and excellence, I chose the samurai for this project.

The background wedges are seventeen imported Japanese fabrics and antique silk obis. Methods used are paper-piecing, machine piecing, fusing, thread painting, free form machine quiltinq using Madeira rayon threads, Pigma pen, acrylic, and oil pastels paints.

CREATIVE QUILTING: THE JOURNAL QUILT PROJECT

Karey Bresenhan's book illustrates the "A PAGE FROM MY JOURNAL" quilts from 2002 to 2006 which were created by QUILTART members. The quilts were on display at INTERNATIONAL QUILT FESTIVALS in Houston and Rosemont, Ill.
2002-2006. The project was finalized in 2007 and the Journal - 2007 will be on exhibited at IQF in Houston, Rosemont and Long Beach in 2007 - 2008.

Another exhibition "CREATIVE QUILTING: The JOURNAL QUILT PROJECT" displaying those journal quilts illustrated in the book will also be on display at IQF in Houston, Rosemont and Long Beach in 2007-2008. Three of my quilts were selected and included in the book and exhibition.

MY AUTUMN MUSE - April 2004

MY AUTUMN MUSE - April 2004

8 1/2 x 11"

Stretching my imagination, I incorporated theme fabrics with my originally designed painted nude muses to convey the four seasons and elements of nature for the Journal Project 2004.

''Autumn Muse'' is set against a background fabric that epitomizes the colors of falling leaves of the Fall season. Her stylized flowery hair of green leaves contrasts well against leafy background.

Acrylic paints, Pigma pens, Needle-turned Applique, Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted.

QUILTING SISTERHOOD - March 2002

8 1/2"x 11"

My theme for 2002 was in response to coping and recovering from a devastating illness. Utilizing different quilting techniques challenged my creativity. It was the support of my quilting friends who was helpful in motivating me to overcome my feelings of helplessness during that time. They gave me the courage to continue to quilt. This original designed quilt reflects the bond of quilting sisterhood that sustained me through my recovery.

Redwork embrodiery, Hand Quilting.

RHYTHMS OF SPAIN - March 2003

8 1/2"x 11"

A strip of colorful fabric fom Spain was my inspiration in creating this design. It echos my trip there years ago. I hand painted the additional complimntary fabrics to convey my impression of the vibrancy of Spain's rich culture and its people as well as its pulsating rhythms.

FABLED FIBERS; ART QUILT ENHANCEMENTS

A member of QUILTART challenge of creating fiber art of children's fairy tales evolved into
getting these quilts displayed at various quilting venues along with the creation of a 2008 Calender and Postcards. My quilt "CINDERELLA" was created for this challenge. All of these quilts will be on exhibition at the following quilt festivals:
