Theme: "ROAD TO RECOVERY: FINDING MY NEW SELF" - Quilt Page Journal Jan. - Sept. 2002 - 8 1/2"x11",
Each month's Quilt is created by using a different quilting technique as a means of expressing events and thoughts which occurred that month.
The theme covers the "after shock" of a disabilitating illness and how I coped in my recovery process.

CRYING MY HEART OUT

January - 2002
The realization I am no longer invincible, and now have physical limitations. Lamenting my "old" hectic workaholic enjoyable life. (Reversed Applique)

WIN SOME, LOSE SOME

February, 2002:
I was unable to do scheduled quilt events and had to cancel two of them. But elated I was able to do two workshops at The Brooklyn Children's Museum for Black History Month. This is one of the Applique Workshops. (Hand Applique, Embellishments,Hand Quilted)

QUILTING SISTERHOOD

March 2002:
It's my quilting sisters who are helping through my physical challenge. Through their encouragement, faith and example, the "sisterhood" are teaching me to see life "half full, not half empty" . (Redwork Embroidery, Hand Quilted)

ROAD SIGNS

April 2002:
The realization that I have to learn a new vocabulary which is more in keeping with my new lifestyle. Also, to discard old cherish ones which no longer apply. (Paper Strip Piecing, Fusing, Machine Quilted)

A STAR FOR EFFORT

My doctor has started me on a low impact exercise regime. It "ain't" easy. To get through this trying exercise time I play a mind game of makebelieve called, "visualization". (Fabric paints, Micron pens, Machine Quilted)

QUILTING IN PARADISE

July 2002
My first outdoor venture in a year to my favorite quilting site, The Brooklyn Botanical Gardens. It is a place where I often went several times a week. It is something I can no longer do. So, I enjoy every moment as I sit and quilt and look out at the beautiful flora and fauna. (Watercolor 2" Machine Piecing, Fusing Applique, Machine Quilted)

A SHATTERED IMAGE

August 2002
It was exactly a year ago that my life shattered just like a broken mirror. I am now being "glued back" and my lifestyle certainly has changed. It has been a difficut year to try and regain somewhat a healthy life. I guess I'll just have to make lemonade out of life's lemons! (Machine Pieced, Machine Thread Quilted)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY GIRL!

September 2002
It's my birthday!. No, I won't tell my age....crone!!! But I am glad I made it thus far. Sheer determination, family and friends helped me on a year long road to recovery which, by the way, I am still traveling on. Doing these QuiltPage Journal Quilts has been my salvation in my battle in physical recovery and mental well being. Not to mention expanding my knowledge of new tecniques in my quest to further develope my skills.(Dimensional Applique, Silk Ribbon Applique, Hand Quilted)
