Introduction To The Butterfly Garden
We are delighted to present to you this web site and its message of beauty, inspiration, and hope. The pages were created to bring you enjoyment and a sense of affirmation of God's beauty---found not only in His creatures, as represented by the wonderful butterflies---but also in the quotes and wisdom penned and spoken by God's most promising of creations---humankind. The butterflies all come from our butterfly garden. The various quotes and sayings come from men and women, endowed and challenged by God to use His gifts of insight, intellect, and wisdom, to nurture spiritual and personal growth. |
When sunset falls upon your day
And fades from out the west,
When business cares are put away
And you lie down to rest,
The measure of the day's success
Or failure may be told
In terms of human happiness
And not in terms of gold.
Is there beside some hearth tonight
More joy because you wrought?
Does some one face the bitter fight
With courage you have taught?
Is something added to the store
Of human happiness?
If so, the day that now is o'er
Has been a real success.

He came and took me by the hand
Up to a red rose tree,
He kept His meaning to Himself,
But gave a rose to me.
I did not pray Him to lay bare,
The mystery to me;
Enough the rose was heaven to smell,
And His own face to see.

Courage......an independant spark from heaven's bright throne,
By which the soul stands raised, triumphant, high,
alone.
~~~~George Farquhar
The little cares that fretted me
I lost them yesterday,
Among the fields above the sea,
Among the winds at play,
Among the lowing of the herds,
The rustling of the trees,
Among the singing of the birds,
The humming of the bees.
The foolish fears of what might happen,
I cast them all away,
Among the clover-scented grass,
Among the new mown hay,
Among the husking of the corn,
Where drowsy poppies nod,
Where ill thoughts die and good are born.......
Out in the fields with God.
~~~~Louise Imogen Guiney
Fearest the shadow? Keep thy trust;
Still the star-worlds roll.
Fearest death? Sayest, "Dust to dust"?
No; say "Soul to soul!"
~~~John Vance Cheney
The size of one's Heaven is the exact dimensions of his soul. Happiness is a matter of appetite and capacity. As well prepare dinner for a corpse as Heaven for a soul whose spiritual functions are dead. The problem of the hereafter is not the matter of a celestial climate and a city beautiful. It is the problem of the eternal in man. The kingdom is within him. The greatest concern of a human being therefore should be to feel God's presence, to be stirred by His message, to have faith in the invisible, and to follow aspirations which leap over the boundaries of time and seek satisfaction in the infinite. For to be devoid of all this is to fall victim to the disease that destroys character, paralyzes progress, and forbids happiness.
