Foreword Sailor Moon is an international phenomenon, with the series available in almost every widely spoken language on Earth. I have some footage in Japanese and English (of course), but also some in Spanish, French, Italian, and a clip in Swedish. ^_^ And in almost every country that runs Sailor Moon on broadcast TV, it is supported with soundtrack CDs, with the list being the biggest in Japan with Germany close behind. While the North American release got a lame theme song (blame Andy Heyward), the Italian release of Sailor Moon got some nice opening theme songs by Cristina D'Avena, one for each series of Sailor Moon! While it seems more often than not that anime is renamed and new theme music is used rather than a translation in countries such as Italy or France (or the U.S.), sometimes those songs are very nice. And while it seems some anime purists in those countries may not like those new songs, the CDs are usually collectible anyway. My source for the Italian Sailor Moon openings says while there were CDs released with Sailor Moon songs on them, there was only 1 released with all 5, a Dance remix, and a drama track for Episode 200 on it. The drama track was released because at first the last episode wasn't going to be shown on TV in Italy, but was eventually shown but heavily edited. My sincere thanks to Gabriele Del Prete, whose kind efforts to secure a CD of those songs for Sailor Moon in Italy are well appreciated, and without his help, this page would not be possible. He transcribed and translated the lyrics to the 5 songs on this page.
