Harris had been mayor of Flemingsburg at one point. At the time of his death, he was a member of the Flemingsburg Town Council and was seeking the post of mayor for a second time. He also was general manager of Cheap Chevrolet and had worked with the company since 1949. A member of the Flemingsburg Masonic Lodge, he was born at Coopers, W. Va., near Bramwell, and was a son of the late Elbert Lee and Dora Jane Bell Harris. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Hazel Miller Harris, and two sons. Survivors include one son, Paul Gene Harris of Phoenix, Ariz.; three brothers, Jess Harris of Bramwell, Elbert Harris of Warren, Ohio and George Harris of Lynchburg, Va.; four sisters, Mrs. Claude Wilburn of Radford, Va., Mrs. Charles Carter of Pocahontas, Va., Mrs. Lois Fleming of Alhambra, Calif., and Mrs. Irvin Butt of Bramwell; and five grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted today at 2 p. m. at Denton Funeral Home in Flemingsburg. Burial will follow in a Flemingsburg cemetery. Samuel Jackson died October 18, 1977.
